BREWERY EQUIPMENT AND MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

Strange Fellows Brewing is looking for a mechanically capable person to take responsibility for the day-to-day care and reliability of our brewery and packaging equipment.

This is a full-time position with regular weekday daytime hours. It offers varied work, considerable independence and the opportunity to take ownership of the brewery’s equipment-maintenance program.

The position is suited to someone who is naturally good at understanding machinery, diagnosing problems and making practical repairs. You may already have maintenance experience, or you may be working in brewery production, manufacturing, automotive, marine, fabrication or another mechanical field and be ready to move into a dedicated equipment-maintenance role.

A trade ticket is welcome but is not required. Brewery experience is also welcome but is not essential. More important to us are mechanical aptitude, safe working practices, reliability and a methodical approach to troubleshooting.

Maintenance and equipment reliability will be the primary focus of the position. Up to approximately 20% of the employee’s time may be spent supporting brewery production and packaging. This hands-on production work will also provide a practical understanding of how the equipment operates and where reliability improvements are needed.

THE WORK

- Inspect, maintain and repair brewery and packaging equipment




- Troubleshoot mechanical and pneumatic problems
- Perform equipment changeovers, adjustments and routine servicing
- Help maintain canning, seaming, conveying and carton-packaging equipment
- Develop and follow preventive-maintenance schedules
- Identify work requiring qualified outside trades and coordinate with contractors
- Maintain service records, equipment manuals and an organized spare-parts inventory
- Help improve equipment reliability and reduce production downtime
- Support brewery production and packaging work as part of the role, generally representing no more than approximately 20% of working time

Our equipment includes pumps, motors, gearboxes, conveyors, pneumatic systems, canning and seaming equipment, carton-packaging equipment, air compressors and other brewery systems. Licensed contractors perform regulated electrical, refrigeration, gas and boiler work where required.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Essential:

- Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving ability
- Some demonstrated experience working with machinery, mechanical equipment or comparable hands-on projects
- Safe and careful working habits
- Familiarity with common hand and power tools
- Willingness and ability to learn unfamiliar equipment and systems
- Ability to read and follow equipment manuals and technical information
- Ability to communicate and work constructively with brewery and packaging employees




- Reliability and the ability to work independently
- Ability to perform physical work, including lifting up to 50 pounds and working in restricted spaces

Helpful, but not required:

- Brewery, food, beverage or manufacturing experience
- Packaging-line experience
- Experience with conveyors, pneumatics, pumps, motors or gearboxes
- Welding, machining or fabrication ability
- Experience with can fillers, seamers or carton-packaging equipment
- Trade schooling, apprenticeship experience or technical certification
- Experience maintaining service records or spare-parts inventories
- Forklift certification

Pay: $27–$33 per hour, depending on directly relevant experience and qualifications
