As a Residential Counselor, you will provide direct support in both residential and community settings. You will help create a structured, supportive environment while assisting individuals in developing independence, confidence, and essential life skills.

Key Responsibilities

- Support and promote the overall safety, wellness, and emotional well-being of individuals
- Provide individualized care based on established plans and evolving needs
- Assist with daily routines including meal preparation, hygiene, dressing, and household responsibilities
- Provide hands-on support with personal care when required
- Support individuals in developing life skills such as communication, budgeting, and daily independence
- Encourage and facilitate participation in recreational, social, and community activities
- Accompany individuals to appointments, outings, and community engagements
- Offer emotional support, guidance, and practical strategies for managing behaviour and stress
- Use de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques to safely manage challenging situations
- Demonstrated anti-oppression, anti-discrimination and anti-racism practice and approach
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of crisis intervention, issues of child abuse,



mental health issues, systemic approaches, and adolescent development;
- Advocate on behalf of the youth and family
- Assist individuals in accessing supports such as Ontario Works, ODSP, and other community resources
- Build connections with community partners and support networks
- Maintain accurate documentation including daily logs, progress notes, and incident reports
- Communicate significant updates to team members to ensure continuity of care

Qualifications

- Diploma or degree in a related field (e.g., Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Social Service Worker, Psychology, Human Services, or equivalent)

Assets

- Familiarity with community and government supports (e.g., Ontario Works, ODSP)
- Valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle and $2,000,000 personal liability insurance or willing to obtained
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
- Experience with working with Child Welfare

Pay: $20.35-$30.00 per hour
