About the Role
We are looking for a highly organized and capable Project Coordinator / Entry-Level Project Manager to join our team. We are a subcontracting firm primary dealing with scopes of work within Division 7 and Division 9.
This position is well suited to someone who is comfortable working with technology, enjoys keeping information organized, and can stay on top of a large number of moving pieces at once. The successful candidate will work closely with our project management and field teams to help keep projects organized, documented, supplied, and moving forward.
A key part of this role is the ability to read and interpret construction drawings accurately, understand project scope, identify relevant details, and assist with estimating and material take-offs.
We are less concerned with having many years of project management experience than we are with finding someone who is sharp, dependable, detail-oriented, technically capable, and able to learn quickly.
For the right individual, this role offers significant opportunity to develop into a full Project Manager position with increasing responsibility.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Support the day-to-day management of multiple active construction projects.
- Work closely with superintendents, foremen, and project management staff to ensure field operations have the information and materials they need.
- Review architectural and construction drawings to understand project scope, details, quantities, and coordination requirements.
- Assist with estimating, material take-offs, quantity verification, and pricing exercises.
- Identify drawing revisions, scope changes, discrepancies, and items that may affect cost or field execution.
- Track project schedules, outstanding items, changes, deficiencies, documentation, and follow-up requirements.
- Maintain accurate and organized project records, logs, spreadsheets, reports, and correspondence.
- Review drawings,
specifications, scopes of work, and project documentation.
- Assist with material purchasing requirements and coordination of project materials.
- Prepare and track change orders, pricing requests, and other project-related documentation.
- Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, general contractors, consultants, and internal staff.
- Assist with subcontractor scopes, pricing, contracts, invoices, and approvals.
- Monitor project costs and help identify potential budget or scheduling issues.
- Use construction and internal software systems to keep project information current and accessible.
- Follow up on outstanding items and help ensure commitments and deadlines are not missed.
- Take on increasing project management responsibilities as experience and knowledge develop.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who is:
- Very strong at reading and interpreting construction drawings.
- Able to understand plans quickly and identify relevant details, dimensions, assemblies, and scope requirements.
- Comfortable completing or assisting with estimates, material take-offs, and quantity reviews. This will apply primarily to change orders, site instructions, etc.
- Extremely organized and good at tracking information.
- Strong with computers, spreadsheets, software, and learning new systems.
- Comfortable managing a high volume of emails, documents, tasks, and competing priorities.
- Detail-oriented without losing sight of the overall project.
- Proactive and willing to follow up rather than waiting for direction.
- A clear and qualified communicator.
- Comfortable working directly with construction field personnel.
- Able to learn quickly and develop a strong understanding of our operations.
- Interested in developing a long-term career in construction project management.
- Standard working hours are typically 6:30am to 4:30pm. There is flexibility on select days as required.
Experience & Qualifications
Previous construction experience is preferred, but extensive project management experience is not required.
Experience in any of the following would be particularly valuable:
- Construction estimating or estimating coordination.
- Material take-offs and quantity surveying.
- Reading architectural, structural, and construction drawings.
- Project coordination or junior project management.
- Insulation, drywall, framing, or other construction trades.
- Wood-frame construction.
- Reviewing specifications and construction details.
- Procore, Fieldwire, PlanSwift, Bluebeam, or similar construction software.
- Microsoft Excel and other project tracking tools.
- Purchasing, procurement, or vendor coordination.
A solid Estimator or Project Coordinator looking to move toward project management would be an excellent fit.
Growth Opportunity
This is not intended to be a purely administrative position. We are looking for someone who can become an important part of the project team, develop a strong understanding of our business, and take on progressively greater responsibility.
For the right person, there is a clear opportunity to grow into managing their own projects and eventually take on a larger role within the division.
