The City of White Rock Recreation Department is looking for an enthusiastic and engaging Guitar Instructor to join our recreation team at the White Rock Community Centre. This is a great opportunity for a musician who enjoys teaching and inspiring students of all ages and abilities to learn, create, and build confidence through music.

We’re looking for an instructor who can bring energy, creativity, and a genuine passion for music to each lesson. Whether students are picking up a guitar for the first time, developing their technique, or building on existing musical skills, you’ll help create a fun, encouraging, and positive learning environment where they can discover the joy of making music.

This is an excellent opportunity for an emerging or established music professional who enjoys connecting with students and creating positive, personalized learning experiences.

Responsibilities

As a Guitar Instructor, you will:

- Provide engaging guitar instruction for a variety of ages and abilities, primarily to adults, and seniors, with the possability of teaching children & youth.
- Plan and deliver lessons that support musical skill development, creativity, confidence, and individual expression.
- Adapt instruction to suit each student’s age, ability, learning style, musical interests, and goals.
- Introduce and develop foundational music skills, including guitar technique, rhythm, chords, notation, musicianship, and performance skills, as appropriate to each student.
- Create lesson plans and identify any supplies or resources required for instruction.
- Prepare and maintain an organized, welcoming, and secure teaching space.
- Encourage students to explore music in a supportive environment that makes learning enjoyable and rewarding.




- Foster a positive and inclusive learning experience where students feel comfortable developing their musical abilities at their own pace.

Required Skills & Experience

We’re looking for someone who brings both musical knowledge and a passion for teaching. The ideal candidate will have:

- Experience providing private or small-group music instruction.
- Strong guitar performance skills and knowledge.
- The ability to assess the age and skill appropriateness of lesson materials and adapt instruction accordingly.
- An understanding of how to engage students with different experience levels, learning styles, and musical interests.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills with students, families, staff, and fellow instructors.
- Creativity, enthusiasm, patience, and a positive approach to teaching.
- Effective problem-solving and organizational skills.
- The ability to work independently while also contributing positively to a collaborative recreation team.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a dynamic and creative music instructor with demonstrated experience in music performance and education.

The successful candidate will have:

- A degree or diploma in Music Performance, Music Education, or a related field.
- A minimum of two years of experience teaching music, with a strong understanding of music pedagogy and instructional techniques.
- RCM certification or equivalent music education/training would be considered an asset.
- Current Emergency First Aid with CPR-C certification.

Hourly Rate: Beginning at $40.00 per hour

Applicants under consideration will be required to consent to a Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check, as applicable. The successful applicant will also be required to provide proof of relevant qualifications and certifications.
