Recreation Facility Operator 1

Salary Range - $29.55 – $35.28 per Hour

Adaptable Availability for Days, Evenings & Weekends - Casual Schedule

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:

The Operator 1 ensures that arena floods and curling ice preparations are done on time with safety being a prime concern. Primary responsibilities include ice resurfacing, edging, curling ice preparation, janitorial work & ice plant/compressor log readings, & some HVAC troubleshooting. As a member of the facility team, the position provides cooperative assistance within all areas of the business.



The attitude demonstrated in fulfilling the responsibilities shows a clear understanding of a strong customer service ability and capacity to work in a team environment.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Ability to make artificial ice and the knowledge of ice maintenance procedures

- Resurfacing, edging and other ongoing ice maintenance as scheduled

- Ice Resurfacer Operation

- Edger Operation

- Ice Depth measurement

- Ice Chopping/Spudding Leveling the Ice

- Ice Painting

- Curling ice preparation, knowledge: Sweeping, cleaning, pebbling

2. Basic knowledge of ice refrigeration equipment, monitor the ice plant regularly and take appropriate actions as necessary for safe operation, maintaining logs with readings (as required) and keeping appropriate notes

3. Perform basic preventative maintenance on ice resurfacer

4. Performing small maintenance jobs including opening and closing of the facility, snow removal, grass cutting, custodial duties and day to day operations of the facility

5. Maintains appropriate checklists and records with respect to their duties, tasks and cycles

6. Interacts professionally with facility users, addressing inquiries, concerns and emergencies as required

7. May be required to perform duties outside of their primary responsibilities, to support team or organizational goals and evolving business needs

TRAINING, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:

- Grade 12 or equivalent




- Arena Operator 1 certification
- Curling Assistant Ice Tech Certification
- 1-2 years’ experience performing similar work in a recreation environment
- Strong communication and customer services skills
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Drivers License
- Clear RCMP Based Criminal Record check
- Standard First Aid and CPR

To be successful in this role, candidates will need to (ie. be physically fit for laborious work indoors and outdoors, able to lift up to 50 lbs), detail oriented, safety minded, proven customer service abilities and a positive team oriented attitude will be considered.
