Indigenous Cancer Screening Nurse (RN)

Location: Stoney Health Centre
Reports To: Manager, Primary Care
Position Status: 3-Year Term
Start Date: Mid-November 2026
Salary: Per UNA Salary Grid
Schedule: Generally Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with flexibility to accommodate community availability.

Position Summary

The Indigenous Cancer Screening Nurse (RN) supports Indigenous clients and families by promoting cancer prevention, education, and screening services. Working within a culturally protected and trauma-informed framework, the Nurse helps improve access to breast, cervical, colorectal, and lung cancer screening while providing advocacy, care coordination, and health navigation support.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide cancer screening education, support, and navigation services.
- Coordinate appointments, follow-up care, and access to healthcare and community resources.
- Conduct health assessments, screenings, and medication reviews.
- Support health promotion, chronic disease management, and patient education.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, community partners, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers.
- Participate in outreach initiatives, reporting, quality improvement activities,



and occasional travel to Indigenous communities.

Qualifications

- Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) preferred.
- Minimum three (3) years of nursing experience, preferably in primary care, public health, or community health.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations.
- Knowledge of cancer screening programs, Indigenous health, cultural safety, and health equity principles.
- Valid CPR certification, Class 5 Driver's Licence, reliable vehicle, and satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
