Role Summary
At Saffron Hill, the bar is a place for discovery, conversation, and genuine connection. As a Bartender, you will bring together the spirit of Italian hospitality and the character of Nova Scotia through thoughtfully crafted drinks, knowledgeable recommendations, and a warm welcome. From an aperitivo that begins the evening to a beautifully served local wine, you will help create memorable experiences that invite guests to settle in, explore, and return.
Key Responsibilities
- Bring our beverage experience to life. Prepare and present classic and signature cocktails, wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages with precision, consistency, and thoughtful attention to glassware, temperature, garnish, and presentation.
- Celebrate Italy and Nova Scotia. Share the stories behind our menu, connecting guests with Italian wine regions, aperitivi, and amari, alongside featured Nova Scotia wines, craft spirits, beers, and seasonal ingredients.
- Build genuine connections, anticipate needs, and offer approachable recommendations that respect each guest’s preferences, budget, and choice to enjoy alcohol or abstain.
- Recommend beverage pairings that complement our cuisine, and provide confident wine presentation and service in keeping with restaurant standards.
- Collaborate with the Bar Manager on seasonal features, cocktail development, and distinctive garnishes that reflect our Italian inspiration and local surroundings.
- Coordinate bar and table orders accurately, communicate with Front-of-House and Culinary teams, and maintain composure and quality during busy service periods.
- Complete opening and closing procedures; maintain a clean, organized,
and fully prepared bar; and care for glassware, tools, and equipment.
- Follow approved recipes, measurements, preparation, labelling, and storage procedures. Support inventory counts, communicate replenishment needs, and reduce avoidable waste.
- Follow Nova Scotia liquor requirements, licence conditions, and restaurant policies, including age verification, monitoring alcohol consumption, refusing service when required, and promptly involving a manager when support is needed.
- Confirm beverage ingredients when allergies or dietary restrictions are identified, follow cross-contact prevention procedures, and seek guidance whenever information is uncertain.
- Enter orders and process payments through the point-of-sale system, following cash-handling and reconciliation procedures.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully, assist Team Members during busy periods, and contribute to a calm, collaborative service environment.
- Follow all Occupational Health & Safety policies to support a safe and inclusive workplace.
- Identify and report potential hazards or concerns in a timely and responsible manner.
- Participate in training, service briefings, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Treat all Guests and Team Members with dignity, respect,
