Join the Grace K9 team as a Dog Training Assistant & Kennel Care team member, where you’ll play an important role in providing exceptional care for the dogs staying with us while gaining hands-on experience in professional dog training.

This is a paid, part-time position with the opportunity to learn, develop your dog-handling skills, and grow within the role. For the right person, this can be a stepping stone toward becoming a professional dog trainer.

We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with dogs, isn’t afraid of hard work, and is eager to learn. You’ll assist with everything from daily kennel care and facility upkeep to walks, structured daycare groups, enrichment, and training.

Responsibilities

- Assist professional dog trainers with training exercises focused on obedience, leash skills, socialization, neutrality, confidence building, and everyday manners.
- Participate in supervised training sessions and help reinforce skills with dogs enrolled in our programs.
- Oversee small, structured daycare groups and help maintain safe and appropriate interactions between dogs.
- Walk, exercise, play with, and provide enrichment for dogs in our care.
- Feed dogs and follow individual feeding and care instructions.
- Complete regular kennel rotations, let-outs, and general daily care.
- Clean and sanitize kennels, crates, yards, bowls, equipment, and common areas.
- Complete laundry, dishes, waste removal, and other general facility-maintenance tasks.
- Monitor dogs’ behaviour, health, and overall wellbeing and communicate any concerns to senior staff.
- Learn to safely handle dogs of different breeds, sizes, temperaments, and training levels.




- Assist with other day-to-day kennel and training operations as required.

Requirements

- A genuine interest in dog behaviour, training, and professional animal care.
- Previous experience working with dogs in a professional capacity is preferred.
- An interest in learning dog training and potentially progressing into a training role.
- Comfortable handling dogs of various breeds and sizes.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
- Willing to learn, take direction, and receive constructive feedback.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Physically capable of standing, walking, bending, cleaning, and lifting throughout the shift.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean, safe workplace.
- Reliable transportation to our North Burlington facility.

$20/hour

You don’t need to come into this position as a dog trainer. We’re looking for someone with a strong work ethic, valuable instincts around dogs, a willingness to learn, and a genuine interest in developing their skills.

As you gain experience and demonstrate reliability, good judgment, and strong dog-handling skills, there will be opportunities to become increasingly involved in our training programs and take on greater responsibility.
