Mechanical and Electrical Quantity Surveyor
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical and Electrical Quantity Surveyor to support cost planning, construction estimating, and procurement. This position is suited to a professional with deep knowledge of mechanical and electrical building systems, solid written communication skills, and practical estimating and cost management experience. A CEC or PQS designation from the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors is a strong asset.
Responsibilities
- Prepare quantity take-offs and detailed cost estimates for mechanical and electrical systems at various stages of design.
- Develop cost plans, budgets, and opinions of probable construction cost.
- Review drawings and specifications to interpret design intent and identify cost implications.
- Analyze contractor bids and assist with tender evaluation and procurement processes.
- Provide cost analysis, value engineering input, and cost control recommendations during design development.
- Support preparation of tender documents and scopes of work in coordination with design teams.
- Review and evaluate change orders, claims, and construction cost adjustments.
- Monitor project costs during construction and provide cost reporting and forecasting.
- Maintain cost databases and contribute to the development of estimating standards and templates.
- Remain current with construction methods and evolving industry standards.
- Support constructability reviews, and quality control.
- Support proposals, project planning, and business development activities.
Requirements
- 10 to 15 years of experience in construction documentation, estimating, or related consulting roles.
- PQS or CEC designation (or working toward) considered a strong asset.
- Demonstrated experience in construction cost estimating.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license for a passenger vehicle.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong technical writing and editing skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational ability.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
