Job Title: Psychiatrist Consultant – 0.2 FTE (1 day/week)

The Psychiatrist provides comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment, medication management, crisis support, and ongoing care to clients with a range of mental health conditions, including complex disorders. The role works collaboratively with WHIWH-CHC’s interdisciplinary team and primary care providers, providing consultation, shared care, case management, and leading mental health rounds.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides psychiatric care within a multi-disciplinary team, on or off site by:

- Interviewing, assessing, and diagnosing clients with a broad range of mental health conditions
- Providing ongoing psychiatric care, supporting clients through diagnosis, treatment, stabilization, and periods of destabilization
- Assessing and managing complex mental health presentations, including psychotic disorders
- Providing timely psychiatric support within crisis pathways for clients in acute need
- Delivering psychopharmacological care, including initiation, titration, and monitoring of medications, including newer therapies
- Providing psychiatric consultation based on referrals from WHIWH family physicians and nurse practitioners, ensuring continuity of care
- Supporting an interdisciplinary team by offering case consultation and recommendations through rounds and supervision, where appropriate
- Providing ongoing, collaborative support to primary care providers, including shared care and co-management
- This role requires ongoing clinical involvement and is not structured as a one-time or episodic consultation service
- Leading and facilitating weekly interdisciplinary mental health rounds and team-based care discussions
- Supporting an interdisciplinary approach to care planning with physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, counsellors,



and allied health providers
- Providing team meeting consultations and supporting case discussions
- Offering phone consultation to WHIWH staff, recognizing that on-site clinical days are key for collaboration
- Monitoring and responding to EMR-based messages and consultation requests in a timely manner
- Providing virtual care options, including services for clients outside of the GTA where appropriate
- Supporting efforts to streamline referral processes and improve access to psychiatric services
- Contributing to the development of structured pathways to care, including intake, triage, crisis management, and follow-up
- Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation
- Referring to specialists, hospitals, or community agencies as required
- Advocating for clients with other medical providers, community agencies, and institutions
- Ensuring standards of care are maintained according to accepted psychiatric practice and WHIWH-CHC policies

Assists with the administrative and programmatic work of WHIWH-CHC by:

- Participating in program planning, development, and evaluation for mental health services
- Participating in data collection, outcome measurement, client satisfaction, and internal research initiatives
- Participating in team meetings, peer reviews, and case discussions
- Providing advance notice of planned absences (e.g., vacation, conferences) to support continuity of care

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Medical degree from a recognized university.
- Fellowship in Psychiatry (RCPSC) .
- Certificate of Registration (Independent Practice)



with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
- Demonstrated ability to provide full-scope psychiatric care, including ongoing involvement in client care.
- Robust clinical experience in complex mental health conditions, including psychosis.
- Experience working in collaborative or integrated care models.
- Knowledge of women’s health and mental health issues in community settings.
- Understanding of anti-oppression principles and equity-based care
- Strong interdisciplinary collaboration and teaching skills.
- Proficiency in the use of computers and electronic medical records systems.

REPORTING:

This position reports to the Director of Primary Healthcare Services.

Compensation:

Compensation is based on an established fee schedule and will vary depending on the type of clinical and program-related work provided. This includes consultation, direct and indirect clinical care, interdisciplinary rounds, and administrative activities. A detailed fee schedule will be shared with shortlisted candidates.
