Job Title: Transportation Maintenance Manager
Department: Fleet / Transportation
Reports To: Director of Transportation / Operations Manager

Position Summary

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, safety, and reliability of the company’s transportation fleet and related equipment. This position manages maintenance operations, technicians, vendors, preventive maintenance programs, regulatory compliance, and maintenance budgets to ensure vehicles and equipment are safe, reliable, and available for daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage the day-to-day maintenance and repair activities for trucks, trailers, service vehicles, and other transportation equipment.
- Develop and maintain preventive and scheduled maintenance programs to minimize downtime and unexpected repairs.
- Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate maintenance technicians and other maintenance staff.
- Monitor vehicle inspections, repairs, service intervals, and maintenance records.
- Ensure all vehicles and equipment meet applicable safety, environmental, and transportation regulations.
- Coordinate emergency repairs and breakdown response to minimize operational disruptions.
- Work closely with transportation and operations teams to schedule vehicles for maintenance without affecting service.




- Manage relationships with external repair shops, parts suppliers, dealerships, and other vendors.
- Review repair estimates, invoices, warranties, and maintenance costs.
- Maintain adequate inventory of parts, tools, fluids, and maintenance supplies.
- Develop and manage the maintenance department budget and identify opportunities to control costs.
- Track fleet performance, maintenance costs, vehicle downtime, and other key performance indicators.
- Investigate recurring mechanical problems and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure maintenance facilities, tools, and equipment are clean, safe, and properly maintained.
- Maintain accurate maintenance documentation and reports.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure employees follow company safety procedures and policies.
- Participate in fleet replacement and capital planning by providing recommendations on vehicle condition and lifecycle costs.

Qualifications

- 3–5+ years of Manager experience in fleet, transportation, heavy-duty equipment, or maintenance management.
- Previous supervisory or management experience.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and repair procedures.
- Experience managing maintenance technicians and external service providers.




- Knowledge of applicable transportation, workplace safety, and environmental regulations.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance issues in a rapid-paced transportation environment.
- Proficiency with maintenance management or fleet management software and Microsoft Office.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Heavy-duty mechanic or related technical certification is an asset.

Working Conditions

This position may require working in a fleet maintenance shop, yard, or transportation facility and may involve exposure to vehicle traffic, mechanical equipment, noise, weather conditions, and other industrial environments. Occasional after-hours or emergency support may be required.

Pay: $65,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
