Position: Assistant Store Manager
Location: Edmonton, Alberta
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $58,500–$70,000 per year
Uncle Wiener's Wholesale is looking for a motivated and dependable Assistant Store Manager to join our growing team. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who is ready to support all aspects of store operations while developing the skills and experience needed for future advancement within the company.
Working closely with the Store Manager, the Assistant Store Manager will help oversee daily operations, support and develop the store team, maintain operational standards, drive sales and profitability, and ensure customers receive a positive shopping experience.
Flexibility is important to our growing organization. The successful candidate must be willing to relocate to other Uncle Wiener's locations when business needs and advancement opportunities arise. Relocation assistance may be provided where applicable.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Store Operations: Assist the Store Manager with the overall day-to-day operation of the store, including opening and closing, staffing, merchandising, receiving, inventory, cash handling, and customer service.
- Drive Sales & Profitability: Support the achievement of store sales, revenue, margin, and profitability targets while identifying opportunities to improve performance.
- Lead the Team: Provide day-to-day direction, coaching, training, and support to employees. Take leadership of the store in the Store Manager's absence.
- Maintain Operational Standards: Ensure the sales floor, warehouse, receiving areas, and yard are organized, safe, properly merchandised, and maintained according to company expectations.
- Inventory & Shrink Control: Help maintain inventory accuracy, investigate discrepancies, minimize damages and shrink, and ensure products are properly received, stored, protected, and displayed.
- Cash Handling & Controls: Ensure cash-handling, till, deposit, refund, and other financial procedures are completed accurately and consistently.
- Expense & Cost Management:
Assist in controlling labour, supplies, damages, and other operating expenses without compromising customer service or store standards.
- Customer Experience: Lead by example in providing excellent customer service and resolving customer concerns professionally and efficiently.
- Health & Safety: Promote a safe working and shopping environment and ensure employees follow established safety procedures and policies.
- Performance Monitoring: Review sales results, inventory information, operational reports, and other key performance indicators with the Store Manager to identify gaps and opportunities.
- Problem Solving & Accountability: Proactively identify operational issues, communicate concerns, follow through on corrective actions, and help ensure established standards are consistently maintained.
- Support Company Initiatives: Assist with promotions, special events, new programs, inventory counts, store projects, and other company initiatives as required.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who demonstrates initiative, accountability, and a willingness to learn and grow. The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous retail, supervisory, or management experience preferred.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach and motivate employees.
- Basic understanding of sales, expenses, inventory, margins, and other retail performance indicators.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A hands-on approach and willingness to work alongside the team.
- Ability to identify problems and take appropriate action rather than waiting for direction.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to operational standards.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and changing environment.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and additional hours when operationally required.
- Willingness to relocate to other Uncle Wiener's locations as business needs or advancement opportunities arise.
- Valid driver's licence preferred.

Experience
