Position Summary

Reporting to the Foreman, Parks Services, the Labourer II position performs a wide variety of work functions within the outdoor rinks and snow bank rinks and other duties within the Public Works Department. The position uses safe work practices and procedures to carry out assigned tasks and contributes to the overall effectiveness of the work team.

Responsibilities

include, but are not limited to:

- Perform ice maintenance duties to provide a clean, smooth, clearly marked, level ice surface that is available when required by the public and user groups.
- Ensure all rules and regulations pertaining to the outdoor and snow bank rinks are adhered to.
- Performing pre-equipment inspections and servicing of vehicles and equipment at the end of each day, reporting mechanical problems to the Foreman.
- Operation of light and medium duty equipment in a secure and efficient manner used in the maintenance of the outdoor rinks and snow bank rinks, sidewalks, trails and open spaces.
- Operation of handheld power tools (power edger, ice re-surfaces, snow blowers, edger, shovels).
- Responsible for collection of data on public usage within the outdoor and snow bank rinks and janitorial services as required.
- To ensure facilities are unlocked, and/or secured in accordance to all schedules, policies and procedures.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have an Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License and a High School Diploma. General knowledge of industry practices used in the areas of snow removal operations and ice making is required. The ability to make practical,



fair and objective decisions pertaining to meeting customer needs, and performing facility and equipment operations and maintenance is essential. This is a physically demanding position; incumbents will be required to work in a variety of adverse weather conditions.

This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement. The successful candidate will be required to provide a current Driver’s Abstract at time of interview.

Hours of Work: Varying shifts, working 8 hours per day (40 hours per week)

Duration: November 16, 2026 – March 26, 2027 AND December 14, 2026 – March 26, 2027
