Blackridge Search Group is partnering with a growing Southwestern Ontario real estate developer to recruit a Land Development Civil Engineer.

This is a senior, hands-on opportunity for an experienced Ontario land-development professional who wants to move closer to the owner/developer side and have direct influence over how projects are designed, approved and delivered.

The successful candidate will work closely with ownership, senior leadership, external consulting engineers, municipalities, contractors and other project stakeholders. Initially, the role will work alongside existing external engineering consultants, but over time the organization intends to bring more civil engineering and design capability in-house.

This means we are looking for someone who can do more than coordinate consultants.

You need to be technically strong enough to review, analyze and challenge engineering designs, understand the details behind the drawings, identify issues before they become expensive problems and ultimately take greater ownership of civil engineering work internally.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will support residential land-development projects through planning, engineering, approvals, servicing, construction and assumption.

Responsibilities will include:

- Reviewing and analyzing civil engineering designs
- Reviewing grading, stormwater management, sanitary sewer, watermain, road and site-servicing designs
- Reviewing engineering drawings, calculations, reports and technical submissions
- Identifying design, constructability, servicing and coordination issues before construction
- Challenging consultant designs where appropriate and recommending practical alternatives
- Coordinating external civil, geotechnical, environmental, planning and other technical consultants
- Working directly with municipalities, conservation authorities, utilities and other approval agencies
- Supporting subdivision and site-plan engineering approvals
- Managing servicing requirements and engineering conditions
- Supporting tendering, contractor selection and construction activities
- Reviewing contractor pricing, change orders and technical submissions
- Providing engineering support during site servicing and construction
- Monitoring project schedules, engineering deliverables and approval milestones
- Assisting with project budgets and evaluating the cost implications of engineering decisions
- Supporting deficiency resolution, assumption and municipal close-out
- Providing technical guidance to ownership and internal project teams




- Helping develop stronger internal engineering processes and standards
- Gradually taking on more direct civil design responsibility as engineering capability is brought in-house

What We’re Looking For

This is not a general civil engineering role.

We are specifically looking for someone with strong experience in Ontario residential land development and municipal infrastructure who will eventually serve as Engineer of Record.

The successful candidate will ideally bring:

- A degree in Civil Engineering
- A current Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.) in Ontario
- The ability and authority to stamp engineering work in Ontario
- Approximately 5–10+ years of relevant Ontario land-development experience
- Strong residential subdivision and site-development experience
- Experience with grading, stormwater management, sanitary sewer, watermain, roads and municipal servicing
- Strong understanding of Ontario municipal development and engineering approval processes
- Experience reviewing and producing detailed civil engineering designs
- Experience working with municipalities, conservation authorities and other approval agencies
- Experience coordinating external engineering consultants
- Construction-phase experience related to subdivision servicing and municipal infrastructure
- Experience reviewing contractor pricing, change orders and field conditions
- Strong technical judgment and the ability to identify design or constructability concerns
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to challenge consultants or contractors when required
- Excellent organization, follow-through and project-management ability

Civil 3D / Design Capability

Strong civil design capability is important for this role.

Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and the ability to independently review and/or produce detailed land-development design work will be considered a significant asset.

Over time, the organization intends to bring more engineering and design capability in-house, so candidates who are comfortable remaining technically hands-on will be particularly attractive.

Compensation

The anticipated base salary is approximately $130,000–$150,000, depending on experience, technical capability and overall fit.
