Job overview: The Kitchen Designer ensures excellent service is provided to the customer, either over the telephone or in person, by effectively using selling skills, computer design skills and product knowledge to secure and complete the sale to the customer’s satisfaction.
Location: This position is at the RONA store in Kincardine, Ontario.
Duties and Responsibilities, but not limited to:
- Build strong and lasting relationships with our retail, professional, and contractor customers
- Utilize 2020 Kitchen Design software, or equivalent to create, design, and amend kitchen and bath designs for customers
- Assists customers with their information/product requirements in the store or over the telephone. Through effective questioning and listening techniques, identifies and qualifies customer requirements.
- Work with customers to ensure that designs are meeting the customer’s needs
- Helps direct customers with design choices by staying knowledgeable about current design trends
- Resolves customer complaints and objections including investigating, interpreting policy, and taking the appropriate action to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Clearly understand sales objectives and expectations on a daily basis
- Motivate and influence sales performance with positive feedback and recognition
- Capture the entire project by selling all components of the job, not just the portion.
- Provides appropriate information on suggested products and alternatives and providing application advice as required.
- Suggests add-ons to complete the sale.
- Process the sale as per policy, locates product on the computer, checks to ensure stock availability and to confirm next available delivery date.
- Prepares special orders, obtains the required information and specifications from customer, to establish and confirm price and available delivery date. Applies the appropriate margin and informs customer of the amount required for deposit. Forwards paperwork to the Receiving Department for follow up.
- Follows safe work practices, obtains equipment certifications, and uses personal protective equipment whenever necessary.
- Resolve customer complaints and objections by investigating concerns, interpreting policy, taking appropriate action to ensure satisfaction, referring difficult situations to the Branch Manager or Manager on Duty, and asking for help when unsure.
- Help out with sales in other sections of the store as needed.
- Provide excellent customer service to all Doidge Building Centres Ltd.’s customers ensuring that they have a unique and consistent customer experience
- Ensures maintenance of Doidge Building Centres Ltd.’s customer service standards. To offer a better shopping experience than our competitors.
- Motivates peers through visibility and continuous interaction with customers
- Promotes and develops store level priorities that complement Company Initiatives by leading by example and empowering team members
- Participates in regular professional development and training – including professional sales training company.
- Opportunities exist for RONA training programs and formal/informal vendor training
- Provides regular feedback as well as corrective feedback and when necessary
- Helps other team members to be fully trained on sales and service techniques
- We work with the world’s most recognized sales training company.
- Maintains Doidge Building Centres Ltd.’s Operational Standards, Commitment to Service and Initiatives.
- Conducts department walks, creating a “Things to Do” list to ensure that Doidge Building Centres Ltd.’s standards are met, merchandising changes or future plans, inventory control, etc.
- Reacts to any events that may affect the department by providing solutions and corrective actions
- May participate in store committees (Customer Service Committee, Joint Health and Safety Committee, Community Involvement Committee, Social Club)
- Regular attendance at scheduled meetings (Sales Team Meetings, Management meetings, store meetings. Shrink and department walks)
- Understands and executes merchandising and marketing initiatives developed by management
- Ensure inventory integrity and identify potential sources of inventory losses.
- Executes corrective measures as required in conjunction with the Branch Manager
- Shrink conscious and works diligently to reduce loss
- Opportunity to participate on Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC)
- Follows all health and safety policies and procedures as outlined in the health and safety manual, Employee Handbook, National Heald and Safety Guide, Code of Conduct,
and any other company communications
- Upholds Section 28 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), including, but not limited to adhering to protected work practices, wearing personal protective equipment, and participating in health and safety training.

- Preference may go to someone with 2-3 years of design experience
