Overview

Thunder Bay Pulp & Paper (TBPP) is a leading northern bleached softwood and energy producer. Located on Lake Superior, the Thunder Bay mill has been a landmark company of Northwestern Ontario since 1924. In August 2023, Atlas Holdings established Thunder Bay Pulp & Paper as an independent pulp operation, joining Atlas’ global family of manufacturing and distribution businesses.

The Mechanical Asset Engineer will be responsible for area-based management of the capital and major maintenance programs for a defined area within the mill. This will be accomplished as part of a natural work team comprised of engineer, operations superintendent, maintenance supervisor, process engineer and other support groups. The ideal candidate for this existing vacancy will possess the drive and passion to continuously improve upon the health and safety, efficiency and cost targets for the site.

Responsibilities

- Develop and implement maintenance strategies for mechanical assets to maximize uptime and efficiency.
- Conduct failure analysis studies on equipment and develop strategies to reduce downtime.
- Recommend modifications to extend equipment life or improve performance.
- Document reliability studies and maintenance operations for future reference.
- Build positive relationships with operating and maintenance departments.

Skills

- Candidates must have mechanical engineering degree or diploma.
- Candidates must have at least three (3) years of experience in a similar role in a manufacturing facility.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles combined with practical manufacturing knowledge.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis and statistical process control.
- Ability to interpret blueprints,



specifications and schematics.
- Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner.
- Excellent communicator, insightful, self-aware, and able to listen to employees and integrate feedback into the operations. Strong belief in continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational skills including planning and prioritizing.
- Solid computer skills including MS Office.
- Candidates must be able to legally work within Canada at the time of applying for the position.

Compensation:

This is a salary position in the $80,000 to $100,000 range depending upon experience plus an annual bonus and relocation assistance.
