Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager

About the Role

Cyntech Tanks is seeking an experienced and proactive HSE Manager to lead our health, safety, and environmental programs across our operations and project sites.

This role is responsible for developing HSE strategy, maintaining regulatory and client compliance, managing operational risk, developing the HSE team, and building a solid safety culture throughout the organization.

We are looking for someone who can lead safety rather than simply administer it. The successful candidate will be visible in the field, comfortable working with employees and clients, and capable of continually improving how Cyntech manages health, safety, and environmental performance.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and implement HSE strategies aligned with company objectives and industry best practices.
- Ensure compliance with Alberta OHS legislation and other applicable provincial, federal, client, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain and continually improve Cyntech's HSE management system and support COR requirements.
- Work with client safety management systems and ensure Cyntech's programs meet project-specific requirements.
- Conduct and oversee risk assessments, hazard identification, and development of effective controls and mitigation strategies.
- Conduct regular project-site visits and oversee site safety inspections and corrective actions.
- Lead investigations of incidents and near misses and ensure effective corrective and preventative actions are implemented.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans and coordinate drills and training.




- Develop and deliver HSE training and support field leadership in communicating and enforcing safety expectations.
- Oversee environmental requirements, including environmental protection and waste-management practices.
- Maintain accurate HSE records, including inspections, incidents, training, permits, corrective actions, and regulatory documentation.
- Develop HSE reports, monitor leading and lagging indicators, identify trends, and communicate opportunities for improvement to management.
- Partner with clients, contractors, regulatory authorities, management, supervisors, and field employees on HSE matters.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives based on incidents, observations, employee feedback, client expectations, and industry developments.
- Develop the capabilities of the HSE team through delegation, coaching, mentoring, and training.
- Manage and improve internal HSE tracking systems, reporting processes, and documentation.

Qualifications

- Previous experience in an HSE leadership or management role, preferably within industrial construction, oil & gas, tank construction/repair, steel fabrication, or a related industry.
- Strong knowledge of Alberta occupational health and safety legislation and industrial construction safety practices.




- Experience working within COR and client/contractor safety management systems.
- Experience with incident investigations, risk assessments, corrective actions, inspections, and safety training.
- NCSO, CRSP, or equivalent safety designation is considered an asset.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with field employees, management, clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
- Experience developing and improving HSE programs, procedures, and reporting systems.
- Experience with digital HSE management and tracking systems is an asset.
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly to project sites throughout Western Canada.

Pay: $80,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
