The Arts, Applied Design, Skills & Technologies Department at Crofton House School is distinguished by extraordinary teachers who provide a collaborative, inquiry-based, and student-centered approach to learning. Within this dynamic department, our drama program is designed to develop educated citizens who cultivate empathy, self-expression, and critical thinking through theatrical creation. Aligned with the BC Arts curriculum, students build artistic discipline and creative problem-solving skills as they explore characterization, movement, vocal expression, improvisation, and technical stagecraft.

Through ensemble collaboration and thoughtful reflection, students engage in resolving creative challenges to produce dramatic works that are personal, well-informed, and reflective of diverse perspectives. As an experienced, skilled, and innovative teacher, you inspire students and teachers alike. You are a leader in planning, implementing and assessing student learning. You have a deep knowledge of curriculum development and demonstrate an approach to teaching that is reflective of the way in which girls learn.

You will find the school to be a professional learning centre. In addition to spending an engaging day with students who are genuinely interested in learning, thinking and playing, teachers are provided with dedicated work time as part of their daily schedule to plan and work collaboratively with others and to stay current in their field.

This role is a 0.6 FTE, fixed-term contract covering maternity leave. The course load will be:

- Semester 1: Drama 8 and Drama 9
- Semester 2: Drama 8 x 2 and Drama 9

Please note that while this is currently a part-time, fixed-term position, there is potential for it to expand into a full 1.0 FTE teaching load depending on the school's operational needs and the successful candidate's teachable subjects.

Responsibilities:

- Bring a student-centred, inquiry-based and collaborative approach to the delivery of the B.C. curriculum
- Support the growth and development of individual learners through the delivery of the Crofton House School Ivy Compass and Advisory program
- Work collaboratively with teachers in the Senior School to plan, develop, and implement an extraordinary learning experience for each individual student
- Build relationships with teachers and staff across the school community
- Be an active and positive participant in the co-curricular program (Senior School Production)
- Fully engage in the CHS Teacher Professional Growth Plan

Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience:

- Essential: B.C.



Ministry of Education Certificate or Independent School Certification qualification criteria
- Relevant university qualifications, preferably at the graduate level (e.g. Bachelor of Education plus Bachelor of Fine Arts/Theatre/Drama, or equivalent)
- A comprehensive understanding of current educational practices outlined in the BC Ministry of Education documents
- Understanding of ‘Standards-Based Learning/Assessment’, an asset
- Knowledge of Drama education and ensemble studio practices, including creative risk-taking, dramatic reflection, and character development
- Experience in an independent school, an asset
- Demonstrable awareness of the learning preferences of girls and young women
- Collaborative and energetic with a passion for teaching
- Committed to the craft of teaching, best practices, and standards of professional practice
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- A commitment to continued professional development and growth
- Energy, commitment and a readiness to participate in the co-curricular program

Employment and Application Details: This role is scheduled to start ASAP.

Annual Compensation: $69,541 - $123,242 (pro-rated based on contract dates and FTE).
