Reporting The Assistant Site Director, Sudbury Stream Family Medicine Residency Program, reports to the Program Director, Family Medicine, and functionally to the Sudbury Stream Site Director.
Responsibilities Summary of Functions Under the guidance of the Sudbury Stream Site Director and in collaboration with the other Assistant Site Director(s) and/or Competency Coaches, providing direction for all aspects of education for the Sudbury Stream residents including:
Planning, development, and promotion of Sudbury Site education including competencies, objectives, outcomes, curriculum and assessment consistent with the accreditation standards of the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) and with the mission and values of NOSM University (NOSM U).
In collaboration with the Site Director, Program Director, and the Assessment Lead, provide support for residents experiencing difficulties, including attendance at special meetings, identifying faculty members for enhanced learning plan and remediation, and any other task associated with the successful progression of the resident
Working in collaboration with the site administrative coordinator (SAC) or other administrative personnel to ensure a practical orientation and a welcoming positive environment for learners e.g. organize regular social events, maintain an open-door policy for residents.
Ensuring that learners are well prepared for practice in northern, rural and remote communities
Participating in overall program assessment and evaluation such as annual quality improvement (e.g., feedback to Program Director, recommendations for improvements to the Sudbury Stream etc.)
Provide support, mentorship, and coaching to Sudbury Stream residents, including residents experiencing difficulties in their training
Contributing to the recruitment and development of clinical academic sites across Northern Ontario
Specific Responsibilities Collaborates with Sudbury Stream Site Director and Assistant Site Directors, and the other stream Site Directors and Assistant Site Directors in the following tasks and responsibilities:
Administration
Selection of residents to the stream/site
Act as a dossier reviewer and attend residency interview days
May be requested to represent and/or attend as the stream delegate to:
Residency Program Committee (RPC)
Annual Family Medicine retreat
Site Director Committee (SDC)
Resident Assessment and Progression Committee (RAPC)
Clinical Curriculum and Academics Committee (CCAC) and Program Evaluation and Quality Improvement Committee (PEQIC), as needed
Any other program committees as required In collaboration with the Site Director and with assistance from the designated Program Coordinator (PC), facilitates the scheduling and chairing of local committees including the quarterly Site Competency Committee and the Site Education Committee
Maintains regular contact with designated residents by phone or email to discuss strategies to improve learning, teaching, and the learning setting in Northern Ontario communities.
May be requested to visit local teaching sites at the request of the Program Director and/or Sudbury Stream Site Director
Academic
Assists with the following
Overseeing the clinical experiences of residents to ensure all objectives and competencies can be achieved
Scheduling of resident rotations, in collaboration with the SAC and the LEG administrator
Ensuring appropriate assessment of residents in line with the program requirements including face-to-face feedback, direct observation of clinical skills, timely completion of In-Training assessment Reports (ITARs) by faculty and the Periodic Review process
Ensuring that each resident has an identified Competency Coach
Identifying and securing resources required for the delivery of the curriculum
Maintaining regular communication with clinical teachers and Competency Coaches
Ensuring the provision of safe learning/teaching, research and clinical environments for learners, staff and faculty
Qualifications Education
Doctor of Medicine degree
Possession of a current license to practice medicine in the province of Ontario
Certification in Family Medicine (CCFP)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Holds (or is eligible for) a faculty appointment with NOSM U
Several years of involvement in postgraduate medical education is an asset
Experience in the administration of postgraduate residency programs is an asset
Language
Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset
Remuneration
As per the stipendiary faculty remuneration process
Time Commitment
Three (3.0) days per month
