Who are we?
Refined Substance is a Marketing Communications and Investor Relations firm that provides communications and marketing services primarily to the mining industry.
Mining, like many other industries, has a unique lexicon of technical language, terminology, acronyms and ways of operating that are sometimes difficult for those outside the industry to comprehend.
Refined
Substance takes the substance of the information that its clients are seeking to communicate and refines it so that its meaning and significance is easily understood by any number of target audiences, be they investors, senior managers with limited mining background, media, employees, or the general public.
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
a) Web Content Creation and Adaptation
- Creating and adapting content for websites, in English and French, and ensuring that websites are user-friendly; Updating content as needed
- Optimizing the look and feel of websites in keeping with client’s brand identity and expectations
b) Investor Relations Tools
- Adapting copy and optimizing the look and feel of PowerPoint presentations to investors
- Creating fact sheets / flyers and banners/graphic displays for exhibit spaces
- With team, choosing the most effective investor outreach opportunities for clients and maximizing their value by managing those relationships.
- Writing/adapting blog posts and placement-ready stories for publication in trade media
c) Email and Social Media Management
- Development of key messages/story ideas for client’s social media channels
- Creating content for blogs and social media posts; Monitoring of same,
and responding to comments and inquiries
- Managing mailing lists for clients; creating compelling emails via Mailchimp
d) Conference preparation/logistics, attendance and follow-up
- Preparing Logistics & scheduling for clients attending industry conferences
- Attending conferences to support client participation as needed
- Following up on behalf of clients after conferences
What are we looking for? Technical Qualifications:
- 3 to 5 years relevant experience (investor relations, communications, PR, or related field)
- Excellent spoken and written English and French skills are required due to daily contact with clients, suppliers, and colleagues based outside Quebec.
- Knowledge of software including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Internet browsers, email etc is required
- Owns a computer and has Internet access
- Capable of working alone, remotely and able to meet regularly with the team via Zoom, Teams, or other means
- Following skills are highly desired, considered an asset:
- Ability to update websites using Wordpress
- Basic graphic design skills (Photoshop, Canva etc)
- Familiarity with CRM databases
- Ability and willingness to occasionally travel to conferences or project sites
Personal Qualifications:
- Self-starter with a healthy respect for deadlines
- Imaginative and motivated
- Trustworthy and reliable
- Interested in learning new skills
- Stickler for punctuation and details
- Knowledge of the mining and/or technical industries (an asset)
Work can be mostly conducted remotely, with one in-person day per week (Wednesdays) to be worked at a central office in downtown Montreal. Occasional travel to conferences and events will be required (a few days every couple of months at the most).
