Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to join our Board of Directors. The Board will support the work of CTI by providing mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by CTI’s Executive Director (ED), the Board-ED relationship is a partnership. The Board’s involvement is both critical and expected to ensure CTI’s success.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership, Governance, and Oversight
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director in implementing CTI’s strategic plan.
- Review outcomes and metrics developed by CTI to evaluate its impact, regularly measuring performance and effectiveness.
- Review agendas and supporting materials before Board and committee meetings.
- Approve CTI’s annual budget, audit reports, and significant business decisions.
- Assist the Executive Director and Board Chair in identifying and recruiting new Board members.
- Partner with the Executive Director and other Board members to ensure the implementation of Board resolutions.
- Serve on committees and take on special assignments as needed.
- Represent CTI to stakeholders and act as an ambassador for the organization.
- Oversee the financial health of the organization,
ensuring financial resources are managed responsibly and align with CTI’s mission and strategic goals.
- Provide leadership in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Review and approve financial statements, ensuring they accurately reflect the organization’s financial position.
- Advise the Board on financial strategies, investment decisions, and long-term financial planning.
- Collaborate with the external auditor to ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations and reporting requirements.
- Work closely with the Executive Director and staff to streamline financial processes and align them with best practices.
- Actively participate in Board meetings, providing insights and recommendations.
Board Terms/Participation
CTI’s Board members will serve a three-year term and are eligible for reappointment for one additional term. Board meetings are held quarterly.

This is a unique opportunity for an individual who is passionate about CTI’s mission and has a proven record of board leadership. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated leadership in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector.

- Extensive qualified experience with significant executive leadership accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector.
- Diplomatic skills with an ability to build relationships, facilitate discussions,
and foster consensus among diverse individuals.
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a deep passion for improving the lives of CTI’s beneficiaries.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse group of Board members and staff.
- A commitment to CTI’s mission and a dedication to upholding the highest standards of ethical governance.
Desired Qualities:
- A strategic thinker with a results-oriented approach.
- Proven experience in finance, accounting, or a related field, with a solid understanding of financial management and nonprofit finance (experience in the nonprofit sector is a plus).
- Strong leadership skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Prior experience serving on a nonprofit Board is preferred but not required.
