The Role: Community Manager (Full-time)
The Community Manager builds and strengthens Trellis’ presence and relationships within the community, helping ensure our services and initiatives continue to respond to the needs of children, youth, families, and the communities we serve.
Working closely with internal teams, community partners, and other stakeholders, the Community Manager develops and maintains strong relationships, identifies opportunities to strengthen community connections, and supports initiatives that enhance the impact and reach of Trellis’ services. They bring a strong understanding of community needs and help connect people, organizations, and resources to create meaningful outcomes.
The Community Manager also provides leadership and support to staff, helping teams work effectively and remain connected to the communities they serve. They contribute to planning, resource management, performance monitoring, and the implementation of Trellis’ strategic priorities, while helping identify opportunities for continuous improvement and community engagement.
This role is well suited to an experienced people leader who is energized by building relationships, engaging with diverse communities, developing partnerships, and turning community needs into meaningful opportunities for action. The ideal candidate combines strong leadership and organizational skills with a genuine commitment to strengthening the well-being of children, youth, families, and the broader community.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
Program Management
- Lead daily program operations and ensure services are safe, consistent and responsive to community needs.
- Set priorities for the team and hold staff accountable for quality work.
- Track program results and address performance gaps.
- Apply racial equity and reconciliation principles to program decisions.
- Strengthen partnerships with community agencies and improve how services are coordinated.
- Use feedback from participants and staff to improve programs.
Employee Development & Training
- Recruit and onboard frontline staff and practicum students.
- Coach supervisors and staff through performance concerns and workplace issues.
- Guide staff on complex cases and difficult service decisions.
- Ensure required training is completed on time.
- Create development plans that help staff build skills and prepare for greater responsibility.
Administration & Budget
- Prepare strong grant applications and clear reports for funders.
- Ensure programs meet contracts and approved service plans.
- Keep program records accurate and ready for audit.
- Submit performance data and incident reports on time.
- Use program results to improve services and shape new initiatives.
- Manage spending within approved budgets and flag risks early.
Knowledge and Skills Expectations
- Bachelor’s degree level in human services or equivalent of education and experience.
- A preference of 5 or more years’ experience in a supervisory/management position as well as experience working directly with children, youth, families, and the community.
- Experience supervising, supporting, and directing staff and volunteers.
- Proven history with providing cultural programming with positive outcomes.
- Strong leadership, problem solving, interpersonal, collaborative, and relationship building skills.
- Understanding and application of outcome measurement and logic models.
- Robust oral and written communication skills, including proposal writing, media relations and public speaking skills.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License, reliable vehicle and clear driver’s abstract as this position may require you to drive clients.
- Able to provide a clear Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and Child Intervention Record Check.
Reporting Relationship
This position reports to a Program Director.
