Senior Credit Analyst

Introduction

Brunel is seeking is seeking an experienced Senior Credit Analyst in Calgary. This role is responsible for managing daily counterparty credit exposure, conducting complex credit assessments, and supporting commercial activities within established credit policies, standards, and risk appetite. The successful candidate will bring extensive energy industry credit experience, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal stakeholders and external counterparties.

Working within a fast-paced commodity trading environment, the Senior Credit Analyst will play a key role in portfolio monitoring, risk mitigation, credit approvals, reporting, and contract support while contributing to the continuous improvement of credit tools, models, and processes.

Responsibilities

- Monitor daily counterparty credit exposures across multiple business segments, ensuring compliance with approved credit limits, tenors, and company credit policies.
- Perform ongoing credit analysis by evaluating financial statements, market intelligence, industry trends, and counterparty developments to identify emerging risks.
- Complete detailed credit reviews and make recommendations regarding credit ratings, limits, and terms in accordance with delegated authority frameworks.
- Support daily, monthly, and quarterly portfolio reporting activities, providing meaningful analysis and insights into credit risk exposure.




- Maintain and enhance quantitative credit scoring models used for portfolio benchmarking and risk assessment.
- Provide credit risk input during contract and collateral negotiations, recommending appropriate risk mitigation measures.
- Monitor and report counterparty and portfolio exposures across ETRM platforms and credit management systems.
- Partner closely with commercial teams to evaluate new counterparties, transaction structures, and business opportunities.
- Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external counterparties to support business objectives while managing risk appropriately.
- Utilize technical tools, including Power BI, Power Automate, Databricks, and ETRM systems, to enhance reporting, data analysis, and workflow efficiency.

Requirements

Required

- Bachelor’s degree in commerce, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline.
- CFA designation is considered a strong asset.
- Minimum 10 years of credit risk experience within the energy industry.
- Strong understanding of physical and financial commodity markets.
- Experience conducting complex counterparty credit reviews and financial analysis.
- Demonstrated knowledge of credit risk management practices,



exposure monitoring, collateral structures, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Experience supporting contract negotiations and commercial decision-making processes.
- Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong communication and relationship management skills.
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.

Preferred
- Commodity trading and energy marketing experience.
- Working knowledge of ETRM platforms and credit risk management systems.
- Proficiency with Power BI, Power Automate, Databricks, and advanced Excel.
- Experience developing, maintaining, or enhancing credit scoring methodologies and quantitative risk models.
- Ability to thrive in a energetic, fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities
