Location: Remote within Canada; occasional travel/work sessions in Edmonton, Alberta

About the Role

Our client, the Government of Alberta, is seeking experienced Digital Architect – Data professionals to support digital transformation, service innovation, and program review initiatives.

The Digital Architect – Data will work as part of cross-functional product delivery and program review teams, providing architectural leadership and strategic technical guidance. The role will focus on developing modern, user-centric digital services while ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, technical standards, security, and agile delivery practices.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead solution architecture for digital services and develop overall architectural plans.
- Support citizen-centered design and agile software delivery.
- Analyze existing system environments and identify opportunities for modernization.
- Conduct technical discovery, feasibility assessments, and prototyping.
- Develop solution designs that support iterative implementation.
- Assess architectural impacts, risks, and exposure.
- Define integration approaches, system boundaries, and target-state interactions.
- Identify opportunities to reuse common components and capabilities.
- Provide detailed technical design guidance to development teams.
- Review code changes and contribute to development when required.
- Coach and mentor product teams, developers, and technical leads.
- Contribute to architecture principles, standards, metrics, and continuous improvement.
- Communicate technical architecture to both technical and non-technical stakeholders through documentation, diagrams, and presentations.

Mandatory Qualifications




- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field; equivalent education may be considered.
- 5+ years leading cross-functional agile product teams, providing architectural direction and mentoring developers/technical leads.
- 8+ years of experience as a Data Architect, Software Architect, or Senior Data Engineer working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to develop software applications.
- 5+ years leading solution architecture and establishing technical vision for large-scale enterprise projects involving system integrations.
- 4+ years leading domain modelling and database schema design for transactional and reporting systems.
- 5+ years demonstrating strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influence decision-making.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- 3+ years aligning data architecture with organizational data strategies, digital service delivery objectives, and emerging AI-enabled business capabilities.
- 3+ years applying data governance principles covering data quality, consistency, compliance, metadata management, and responsible data use.
- 4+ years applying secure development practices, identity/access management, RBAC or ABAC, and Zero Trust Architecture principles.
- 5+ years architecting solutions using relational and non-relational databases, analytics platforms, and AI technologies, including data modelling and performance optimization.
- 2+ years working with data interoperability and standardization practices.
- 5+ years transforming legacy systems into contemporary digital/data-driven services using cloud-native and, where appropriate, AI-enabled technologies.
- 2+ years working with Government of Alberta IT/IM policies, standards, and guidelines.
- 3+ years working within an organization of comparable size and complexity to the Government of Alberta on enterprise-scale data, analytics, and digital transformation initiatives.
