Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Hardness Calibration Technician to install, calibrate, maintain, and repair hardness testing equipment (Rockwell, Brinell, Vickers, Leeb/portable, and micro-hardness testers) at customer sites and in-house. The ideal candidate combines mechanical and electronic troubleshooting skills with strong customer service abilities, ensuring testing equipment meets accuracy standards and regulatory/quality requirements (e.g., ASTM, ISO, ANAB/A2LA accreditation needs).

While this role is focusing on Hardness Calibration, we are interested in a candidate who can transition into a wider service and calibration role including optical instruments and industrial ovens and furnaces

Key Responsibilities

- Perform on-site and in-house installation, indirect/direct calibration, verification, repairs, and preventive maintenance of hardness testing instruments (Rockwell, Brinell, Vickers, Knoop, portable/Leeb testers, and hardness testing machines)
- Travel to customer sites (manufacturing plants, labs, research facilities) to perform service calls within Canada
- Provide technical support and training to customers on proper equipment use, care, and basic troubleshooting
- Maintain accurate service records, calibration logs, and equipment history in CRM, or service management software
- Able to prioritise multiple projects and workloads, work on own initiative and contribute effectively as a team player
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper handling of test equipment, PPE use, and safe travel practices
- Stay current with evolving industry standards, equipment updates, and manufacturer-specific service bulletins

Required Qualifications

- Extensive knowledge and experience of hardness testing methods (Rockwell, Brinell, Vickers) and relevant ASTM/ISO standards. Minimum 2 years' experience
- College diploma in a technical field, technical certification in electronics, mechanical engineering technology,



metrology, or a related field preferred
- Ability to read technical schematics, electrical drawings, service manuals, and calibration procedures
- Occasional international travel - a current valid Passport is required with the ability to travel to the USA and overseas for training
- Must have and maintain reliable personal transportation with Valid driver's license and clean driving record; ability to travel regular (day trips and overnight travel within Canada)
- Comprehensive knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025:2017, including calibration procedures, technical records, and measurement uncertainty and accreditation requirements
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Basic computer proficiency (MS Office, service management/CRM software, Excel)

Preferred Qualifications

- Manufacturer-specific training/certification on hardness testing equipment brands (e.g., Wilson, Struers, Mitutoyo, Instron)
- Experience with metrology lab equipment beyond hardness testers (e.g., surface roughness, dimensional gauges, precision measuring instruments, optical/digital microscopes)
- Strong mechanical aptitude and electronics/electrical, electro-mechanical troubleshooting skills

Physical Requirements

- Ability to lift and carry test equipment and tool cases (up to 40–50 lbs)
- Ability to work in industrial/manufacturing environments (noise, machinery, varying temperatures)
