About the Role

Our client, a prominent player in the construction industry, is seeking an experienced In-House Counsel specializing in Construction Law for their operations in Kimberley . This role requires a lawyer with a deep understanding of construction contracts, dispute resolution, and regulatory compliance within the sector. You will provide critical legal support to project teams, advise on contractual matters, and manage claims and litigation. This is a unique opportunity to contribute directly to major construction projects in the Northern Cape and shape the legal framework for significant developments.

Key Responsibilities

- Draft, review, and negotiate construction contracts (e.g., FIDIC, JBCC), subcontracts, and consultancy agreements.
- Advise project management teams on contractual rights, obligations, and risks.
- Manage and resolve construction disputes, including claims for extensions of time and variations.
- Represent the company in adjudications, arbitrations, and litigation.




- Ensure compliance with all relevant construction regulations and health and safety legislation.
- Liaise with external counsel, insurers, and regulatory authorities.

Requirements

- Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
- Minimum of 6 years' experience in construction law, with a focus on transactional and dispute resolution aspects.
- In-depth knowledge of standard forms of construction contracts and relevant legislation.
- Experience in managing construction claims and disputes.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to advise commercial teams effectively.
