Reporting to the Manager, International Admissions, the International Admissions & Credential Officer manages the entire admission process, from initial application through the pre-enrollment stage. This role is crucial in achieving Mohawk's international student enrollment goals and supporting global education initiatives. The incumbent evaluates complex and diverse educational backgrounds from various education systems worldwide.

Using the International Assessment Framework for Credential Evaluation, the incumbent performs comprehensive and fair reviews of international academic records to establish program eligibility and suggests alternative pathways when necessary, fostering an inclusive admissions approach that emphasizes student success.

The role requires the application and interpretation of institutional policies and Canadian immigration guidelines, particularly as they relate to college admissions. The incumbent offers timely, customized admissions and credential evaluation support to applicants, agents, internal shareholders, and community partners. They must apply constructive, unbiased judgment to applicant assessments, ensuring all decisions are grounded in verifiable facts, well-documented rationale, global credential evaluation standards, and institutional values.

Cultural sensitivity is essential, as the incumbent must navigate diverse values, communication styles, and educational expectations with empathy, professionalism, and respect, ensuring that all applicants are supported throughout the process. The incumbent undertakes research and provides recommendations for progressive improvements in admissions and credential evaluation policies, regulations, and guidelines that eliminate barriers to admitting qualified international students.

What you’ll be doing:

Credential Evaluation

- Conducting a detailed review of applicants' academic records to ensure that the submitted documents align with the expected educational backgrounds of students possessing the same foreign credentials. Verifying that submitted credentials are complete and contain adequate information to facilitate a thorough admission evaluation.
- Apply constructive, unbiased judgment to applicant assessments and recognize when deviation from policy is warranted, ensuring all decisions are grounded in verifiable facts, well-documented rationale, global credential evaluation standards and institutional values.
- Identifying barriers to college admission and recommending solutions to the Manager, International Admissions by researching potential alternatives to existing requirements.
- Identifying potential warning signs in an academic record that may indicate misrepresentation. Request official transcripts directly from the issuing institution through mail or secure electronic delivery to ensure the integrity of the documents.
- Authenticate grades online as required by using the online results checker offered by the International School Board or examination body, if available.
- Verify the authenticity of the applicant’s institution and academic program, ensuring they are recognized and accredited in the home country; confirm alignment with institutional, governmental, and international accreditation standards to support a compliant and credible admissions process.

- Conduct a comparative analysis of the foreign qualifications in relation to Ontario’s education system and determine the basis of admission into the selected Mohawk program.

Application Management

- Flag incomplete and inconsistent student records or ineligible files for follow-up and move qualified applications to the next stage of review.
- Verify applicants' English Language assessments online and ensure that the required English thresholds are met within the assessment validity period prior to enrollment.
- Facilitate the admissions process for programs requiring portfolios or additional faculty-assessed components by coordinating submission reviews, ensuring compliance with faculty guidelines, and supporting evaluation logistics.

- Determine whether the applicant requires a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) from the Ministry of Colleges and Universities (MCU), based applicant's admissions history. Request PAL on the student’s behalf.
- Ensure applicants are informed of Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) eligibility by maintaining up-to-date knowledge of PGWP-eligible programs and field of study requirements listed on the student’s study permit. Verifying that those enrolling in non-eligible programs have signed the college’s acknowledgment form prior to the start of their studies.
- Identify ineligible applicants and provide tailored admissions advising by recommending alternative program choices and/or preparatory courses needed to qualify for the desired program.
- Determine the ranking order of eligible applicants by calculating and posting GPAs, test scores, upgraded marks and other selection criteria for competitive or oversubscribed programs.
- Adjudicate and resolve escalated, complex admissions issues/appeals and maintain notes on these cases. Research and review non-standard admissions decisions, communicate these decisions to the team and applicant, and track precedent.

Maintain proactive communication with waitlisted candidates to ensure continued interest and keep records current in the student information system.
- Ensure applicants meet all outstanding conditions listed on their Letter of Acceptance (LOA) by reviewing submitted documentation, tracking condition fulfillment, and following up with applicants as necessary.
- Support in the recruitment and promotion of college programs to both prospects and applicants by collaborating with international recruitment team and agent partners on college offerings and program fit, whether in-person, by telephone, email and open houses.
- Coordinate the admissions processes for incoming exchange students, including application review, eligibility verification, and liaising with the Global Learning team to ensure a smooth and efficient transition.
