About the Role

Our client, a dynamic film and theatre production company based near Kimberley , is seeking a talented Lead Makeup Artist and Special Effects Designer . This role is crucial for bringing characters to life through exceptional makeup artistry, ranging from natural beauty looks to complex prosthetics and creature design for various projects. You will lead a makeup team, manage the makeup department's budget and resources, and collaborate closely with directors and production designers to achieve the visual goals. This is a thrilling opportunity for a creative visionary to contribute to impactful visual storytelling in the Northern Cape region.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and execute makeup looks for actors and performers, including beauty, character, and period makeup.
- Create and apply special effects , including prosthetics, wounds, aging, and creature effects using various materials.
- Lead and direct a team of makeup artists, ensuring consistency and quality across all projects.
- Manage the makeup department's budget, inventory, and procurement of necessary materials and equipment.
- Collaborate effectively with directors, costume designers,



and other department heads to align makeup with the overall artistic vision.
- Ensure adherence to strict hygiene and safety protocols for all makeup application and special effects work.

Requirements

- A strong portfolio showcasing a diverse range of makeup artistry, including special effects and prosthetic work.
- Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in makeup artistry for film, television, or theatre.
- Proven ability to design and execute complex special effects creations.
- Experience in leading and managing a makeup team.
- Knowledge of various makeup products, materials, and techniques for film and stage.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and artistic skills, with a strong understanding of visual storytelling in Kimberley productions.
