Position Summary

Sandstone Recovery Center is a community-based inpatient recovery centre for eating disorder and mental health for adolescents and young adults ages 12 - 24 years old.

The Support Worker plays a critical role in ensuring Sandstone Recovery Center operates consistently with the goals and therapeutic objectives of the treatment program, especially during periods when counselling staff are not available or on duty. Support Workers provide day-to-day monitoring, engagement, and support to patients while maintaining a psychologically safe, structured, and recovery-focused setting.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Patient Support and Engagement

- Provide direct support and supervision to patients in daily routines, meal support, and therapeutic activities.
- Engage patients in structured programming that reinforces treatment goals, including life skills, emotional regulation, communication, and self-care.
- Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment, supporting patients in practicing healthy boundaries and coping strategies.
- Monitor patients for safety and well-being, conducting regular checks in accordance with safety plans and program policies.
- Respond supportively and effectively to client distress or dysregulation, using trauma-informed and non-punitive approaches.





Safety and Risk Management

- Conduct environment checks and monitor for adherence to program rules and safety guidelines.
- Recognize and report safety risks, incidents, or concerns to the Executive Director and interdisciplinary team in a timely manner.
- Assist in implementing safety plans and interventions developed by the clinical team.

- Administers first aid in case of emergency while waiting for medical staff and/or emergency professionals to arrive.

Collaboration and Communication

- Participate in team handoffs and shift reports, sharing observations and relevant patient updates.
- Timely documentation in the EMR, including observations, and reporting incidents accurately and professionally in alignment with program standards and privacy requirements.
- Answer phones in a professional manner.

Program Support

- Assist in the facilitation of therapeutic milieu and programming, including group activities and life skills sessions.
- Support patients in completing care plan goals set by the clinical team (e.g., practicing coping skills, engaging in social interaction, attending groups).
- Help maintain an organized, clean, and welcoming environment that reflects the values of respect, dignity, and recovery.
- Completion of assigned cleaning duties per the posted schedule.

- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or leadership team.

Qualifications and Requirements

- Previous experience supporting youth or young adults in a mental health, addictions, community, or recovery setting preferred.




- Knowledge of eating disorders, trauma-informed care, and mental health challenges.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and remain calm in crisis situations.
- Comfortable using electronic documentation systems and following privacy protocols.
- Current Standard First Aid/CPR level C certification.
- Clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening.
- Shifts may include days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
