Job Summary

Dalhousie University School of Social Work’s faculty, students, and alumni share a common objective: to embrace a critical, anti-oppressive and decolonizing approach to social work practice that includes an emphasis on social policy, qualified values, theoretical perspectives, and practice methods. Reporting to the Director, School of Social Work, the Student Service Coordinator is to provide leadership and coordination in the delivery of the Master of Social Work ( MSW ) L’nuey program, which is being launched within the School of Social Work as a 2-year pilot. This position will work closely with the Dalhousie School of Social Work faculty and staff, the L’nuey Advisory Committee, as well as the Mi’kmaq Nation and its various communities to integrate and align programming.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the planning, implementation, and ongoing coordination of the MSW L’nuey program, including program scheduling, communications, student supports, and evaluation of program effectiveness.
- Develop and deliver outreach, recruitment, and communication initiatives in collaboration with faculty, staff, community partners, and university communications teams to promote program awareness and engagement.
- Advise prospective and enrolled students on admissions, program requirements, academic planning, available resources,



and opportunities that support student success and retention.
- Foster a culturally supportive learning environment by connecting students with mentorship, community-building initiatives, Indigenous student services, scholarships, bursaries, and other wrap-around supports.
- Monitor student progress throughout the program, maintain accurate records, and collaborate with faculty and advisory committees to support student achievement, remediation, and experiential learning placements.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Mi’kmaq communities, university partners, and external stakeholders while leading program evaluation, reporting, research, and continuous improvement activities.

May require occasional travel within the province as it pertains to course delivery as courses will be in Mi’kmaq communities or near by. Must be able to work weekends or intense timeframes such as the five-day camps at the beginning and end of the program.

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications

- Undergraduate degree in social work or a related degree in the social or health sciences, with three to five years related experience (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Experience working with Mi’kmaq and/or other Indigenous students,



with an understanding of Indigenous cultures, communities, and ways of knowing.
- Understanding of the experiences, issues, and challenges affecting Mi’kmaq and Indigenous peoples, particularly within health, education, justice, and other institutional systems.
- Demonstrated cultural responsiveness, relational approach, and ability to communicate effectively with prospective and current Mi’kmaq and Indigenous students.
- Understanding of, or willingness to learn, Mi’kmaq ceremonies and circle pedagogy and their application to student support, curriculum, and program delivery.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage competing priorities, and support program monitoring and evaluation.
