About the Position

Under the general direction of the Director of Health Services, Obstetrics, Gynecology and Neonatology (OGN) and working collaboratively with both the Manager of Health Services, NICU and Manager of Volunteer Services, and while demonstrating a commitment to the Mission, Vision and Values of St.

Boniface

Hospital, the NICU Parent Partner Coordinator is responsible for co-leading the NICU Parent Partner Program.This role is instrumental in creating a supportive environment for families facing the NICU experience, helping them feel understood and connected during a challenging time.

Duties & Responsibilities

- Participates in planning for the expansion and development of the NICU Parent Partner Program.
- In consultation with service area staff, develops and implements volunteer assignments.
- Conducts targeted recruitment to fill volunteer assignments in area of responsibility.
- Assesses applicants’ abilities to meet the specific needs of available volunteer positions.
- Assists in the development of specialized training for the Program Parent Volunteers.
- Conducts orientation sessions for volunteers and staff as assigned.
- Provides direct and indirect supervision of volunteers.
- Guides service area in successful methods of supervising volunteers.
- Monitors the effectiveness of the volunteer role in NICU.
- Monitors the level of support for volunteers in assigned area of responsibility.
- Conducts yearly program evaluation with staff, volunteers and families.




- Communicates performance feedback on an on-going basis to all volunteers.
- Works with Service Area staff to solve problems and improve programs.

Qualifications

Experience

- A parent or guardian of a NICU graduate, having completed their own NICU stay at least one year prior to application.
- Experience understanding the dynamics of parenting and empathy for families undergoing hospital experiences with their child.
- Demonstrated experience working independently using project management techniques to handle multiple projects, collaborating as a strong team member is an asset.
- Previous experience as a volunteer is an asset.
- Knowledge of Volgistics (or volunteer management) software is an asset.
- Awareness of current trends and issues in volunteer management is an asset.
- Previous experience including: recruitment, interviewing, screening, problem solving, supervising, orientation and training, program planning, effective relationships with volunteers, implementing formal and informal recognition.

Note: An equivalent combination of education and experience, as deemed recognized by the Hospital, may be considered in lieu of the above.

Education

- Active Manitoba Association for Volunteer Administration (MAVA)



member preferred.
- Volunteer Management Professionals of Canada VMPC membership preferred.

Qualifications and Skills

- Emotional Resilience – ability to engage with the NICU setting while managing personal trauma or difficult memories associated with the experience.
- Upholds strict confidentiality of patient information while treating all families with respect, regardless of their background.
- Demonstrates empathy, and reflective listening skills are essential for effective support.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint and Outlook required.
- Proven organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Cultural awareness of the diverse backgrounds of the SBH patient/families.
- Detail-oriented and able to work collaboratively.
- Demonstrates innovation and creativity.
- Must have excellent English communication skills, both oral, and written.
- Must have excellent customer service skills including the ability to receive and relay precise personal information.
