The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Construction Project Accountant to support the financial management and reporting of complex high-rise and master-planned construction projects. This is a key role for an accounting professional with strong construction industry experience and a proven ability to manage project financials, maintain accurate cost controls, and partner closely with Project Managers and senior leadership throughout the project life cycle.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage project accounting throughout the full construction life cycle, including project setup, budgeting, commitments, cost tracking, invoicing, forecasting, monthly reporting, and project closeout.

- Partner closely with Project Managers and construction teams to monitor project financial performance, track commitments and expenditures, identify variances, and provide timely financial insight to support informed decision-making.

- Maintain accurate project cost controls and financial records, including purchase orders, subcontractor commitments, change orders, progress billings, holdbacks/retainage, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and project accruals.

- Lead monthly project financial reporting and forecasting, preparing cost-to-complete projections, variance analysis, cash flow reporting, and other financial reports while ensuring alignment between project budgets, schedules, commitments, and actual costs.

- Support financial governance and project controls, ensuring compliance with company policies, accounting standards, contractual requirements, and internal approval processes while proactively identifying financial risks and opportunities.

What You Bring

- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience,



with significant experience in construction, real estate development, or a project-based setting.

- Strong understanding of construction project accounting, including job costing, commitments, subcontractor billings, change orders, holdbacks/retainage, accruals, and cost-to-complete forecasting.
- Proven experience supporting multiple concurrent construction projects, ideally including high-rise residential, mixed-use, or large-scale master-planned developments.

- Strong ability to work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Development Managers, Consultants, Contractors, and senior leadership to ensure accurate and timely project financial reporting.

- Demonstrated experience with budget management, variance analysis, forecasting, cash flow, financial reporting, and project cost controls.

- Strong understanding of construction contracts and the financial implications of change orders, commitments, progress billings, claims, and project closeout.

- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience working with construction accounting or ERP/project management systems.

- Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and accuracy, with the ability to identify discrepancies and proactively resolve financial issues.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate financial information into clear, actionable insights for non-financial project stakeholders.

- A proactive, analytical, and collaborative approach, with a strong commitment to financial integrity, accountability, and supporting successful project delivery.
