The Project Manager leads RNAO–Nursing Secretariat initiatives that support the recruitment and retention of nurses in identified priority communities. Working closely with Indigenous community leaders, health-service organizations, educational institutions, nurses, and nursing students, the Project Manager plans, delivers, and evaluates practical community-based initiatives; provides career guidance; and reports on results.

Service area: WAHA, Pikangikum, Sudbury East, and Thessalon.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Development and Delivery

- Work with community leaders and local partners to identify nursing retention and recruitment priorities.
- Develop and deliver community-specific initiatives, outreach activities, marketing campaigns, and partnerships with educational institutions.
- Support nurses and nursing students with career guidance, including résumé feedback, job-search advice, professional development options, education grants, and prior-learning assessment information.
- Coordinate relevant job fairs, outreach events, and student placement opportunities.
- Create age-appropriate outreach for elementary and secondary school students to increase awareness of registered nurse and nurse practitioner education and career pathways.

Communications and Engagement

- Coordinate monthly meetings among RNAO, the Ministry of Health, and community-based nursing or organizational leaders, as required.
- Maintain accurate and current information about nursing education and career opportunities on relevant web pages and communication channels.
- Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, schools, career counsellors, nursing employers, nurses, and students.
- Develop and deliver in-person and virtual presentations about nursing careers, local opportunities, and effective retention practices.
- Work with internal departments to develop clear print and digital materials that support recruitment and retention initiatives.

Evaluation and Reporting

- Establish practical measures of success for each initiative in collaboration with community partners.
- Track activities, outcomes, risks, and lessons learned, and provide concise monthly progress reports.




- Evaluate initiatives at least annually and recommend evidence-informed improvements.

General Responsibilities

- Participate in Membership and Services Department activities.
- Manage priorities across assigned communities and travel as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE:

Required

- University Degree in Nursing and up to three years of leadership experience in a healthcare environment or equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training
- Demonstrated experience working respectfully and effectively with Indigenous communities, organizations, or health-service partners.
- Experience in project or program coordination, including planning, partner engagement, implementation, and reporting.
- Strong relationship-building, facilitation, presentation, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and collaborate across multiple communities and organizations.
- Ability and willingness to work and travel within the assigned service area, as required.

Preferred

- Proficiency in French.
- Knowledge of nursing workforce recruitment, retention, education pathways, or health-human-resources initiatives.

EFFORT

- The highest degree of confidentiality, sound judgement, respect for all, consistency, fairness, and professionalism
- The workflow requires meeting established, regular deadlines that may require reprioritizing the workload
- Concentration is required for short and long periods to process data
- Sight, touch and hearing are used to operate a computer and review information
- Sitting at the computer is required regularly, as well as walking, standing and operating equipment to perform the job duties

WORKING CONDITIONS

- Works in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to lack of privacy, noise, distractions/interruptions, or stress from multiple demands




- Typical conditions are such that no risk or injury is present

NOTES:

This post is for a contract position (expected end date: March 31, 2027) for a specific program with the potential to make a lasting difference in Ontario’s healthcare landscape.

The starting annual salary for this position is $ 89,000.
