Student Support andRetention Worker
Start Date: ASAP
Rate of Pay:$50,587.12 to $68,441.40
Location: St. Vital and UFCW ALC
35 Hours per week(varying schedule/split shift)
Reporting to the Education Director, MITT AdultLearning Centres (MITT ALCs), the Student Support and Retention Worker is anon-campus position that helps students to achieve their academic and employmentgoals by supporting students to overcome temporary obstacles. The StudentSupport and Retention Worker provides students with social support bylistening, mentoring and offer suggestions for resources, and directlyproviding pathway supports to complete academic, career and life goals while inthe program.
Responsibilities includebut are not limited to:
- Serves as member of an interdisciplinary team of MITT Teachers and staff in supporting and working with students in the MITT Adult Learning Centres.
- Prepares and maintains accurate and up-to-date confidential student files and case records, program files, spreadsheets and administrative records as required.
- During program delivery: meets with students on an ongoing basis to assess their progress, give support and provide referrals to social service agencies for additional resources as required.
- Promotes work-ready behaviours and addresses absenteeism by using appropriate administrative processes.
- Works in consultation with the Education Director or Lead Teachers of MITT ALCs to review and address student needs while in the program,
and identifies options to support student success and goal attainment.
- Helps students navigate MITT processes and advocates for students in the community.
- Works in consultation with other MITT stakeholders to review and address student needs, and identify emerging trends to support student success and goal attainment.
- Maintains a network of community resources and personal support service providers for MITT ALCs.
- Works collaboratively with MITT staff and external stakeholders to provide optimal support to students as they transition into a learning environment and onto next steps; and
- Records and provides documentation of best practices achieved within the scope of student support and retention, and makes continuous improvement recommendations.
- Collaborates with the MITT ALC Administrative roles in the recruitment, admission and orientation of students to the program.
- Collaborates with the Education Director and Lead Teachers in the coordination and delivery of the program’s information sessions.
Required Qualificationsand Experience :
A combination of relatededucation and experience may be considered.
- Post-secondary degree or certificate in the social sciences with a combination of relevant experience relevant experience.
- Interacts with people effectively. Able and willing to share and receive information. Co-operates within the group and across groups. Supports group decisions and puts group goals ahead of own goals.
- Experience working in a social support environment for adult learners is an asset.
- Adapts to changing work environments, work priorities and organizational needs. Able to effectively deal with change and diverse people.
- Expresses ideas effectively. Organizes and delivers information appropriately. Listens actively.
- Shares complete and accurate information. Maintains confidentiality and meets own commitments. Adheres to organizational policies and procedures.
- Displays emotional resilience and the ability to withstand pressure on an on-going basis. Deals with difficult situations while maintaining performance. Seeks support from others when necessary and uses appropriate coping techniques.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Takes personal responsibility for job performance. Completes work in a timely and consistent manner. Sticks to commitments.
- Valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver's License and access to vehicle is preferred.
