Top Drive Technician – Leduc, AB

Savanna Drilling is looking for an experienced Top Drive Technician to join our team in Leduc, Alberta.

The Top Drive Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and servicing of top drive equipment. This position provides technical support both in the shop and at drilling rig locations to ensure equipment remains safe, reliable and operationally ready.

What You’ll Be Doing

- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, servicing and repairs on top drive equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic and electrical issues.
- Inspect components for wear, damage, leaks and other conditions that may affect safe operation.
- Assist with top drive rig-up, installation, removal and commissioning.
- Support major overhauls, rebuilds, upgrades and equipment modifications.
- Travel to drilling rig locations to troubleshoot equipment breakdowns and complete repairs.
- Provide technical support to field personnel on proper equipment operation and maintenance.
- Support rig moves, equipment installations and start-up activities.
- Maintain accurate maintenance, inspection and field service records.
- Maintain top drive spare parts inventory and identify required replacement parts.




- Perform all work in accordance with Savanna’s HSE policies, manufacturer specifications and applicable industry requirements.

What We’re Looking For

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of top drive maintenance experience.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Working knowledge of top drive equipment and associated systems.
- Journeyman Mechanic or Electrician certification is an asset.
- Electrical and PLC controls experience is an asset.
- Previous oilfield or drilling industry experience is an asset.
- Robust troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Ability to travel to field locations as required.
- Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and work outside regular hours when operationally required.
