NorQuesters are difference makers and we're searching for someone dedicated to finding ways forward to join our Faculty Health Studies team as a Practical Nurse Diploma Academic Advisor. Reporting to the Manager, Business Support, the Academic Advisor carries out a range of activities including student program advising, student engagement, student success triage and intervention. They will act as the key program area contact for recruitment, liaison to the Office of the Registrar and Student Services, and partner with the program leadership team.

The ideal candidate will have an advanced level of knowledge about the Practical Nurse Diploma program architecture, Practical Nurse Diploma program regulatory standards and course sequencing, as well as admission processes both at the college and at other post-secondary institutions (PSIs). Depending on the program, this may include information on transfer-receiving PSIs, such as changing competitive grade point average requirements, admissions requirements, high school and post-secondary applicant status at the pertinent post-secondaries, language requirements, core high school subjects, and rules around using post-secondary credits in lieu of core high school subjects, and dual credit. The Academic Advisor will maintain relationships with PSI partners for the purpose of ensuring up-to-date information and to facilitate student transfer credit pathways.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

- Provide support on projects, especially those related to learner pathways, transfer credit agreements, and students supports.
- Triage student issues before they are escalated to program leaders.
- Lead department tracking of ongoing transfer credit requests through ACAT and liaise with the Office of the Registrar on in-process requests.
- Research external pathway opportunities and advise the team on block transfer agreements as part of program development or expansion.
- Maintain communication with internal and external stakeholders, as required and work with leaders and program chairs to complete early term prerequisite reporting. Prerequisite exceptions are reported to admissions.
- Create, run, and analyze reports to be proactive and intervene with advice and guidance to enable student success in the program. This may result in contacting students when progress is out of synch, required courses are missing, and redirection is required.
- Involvement in the applicable regulatory process, by providing data or reporting.




- Meet individually with students to advise them on student pathways related to their academic and skilled goals including assisting students in creating pathways to other post-secondary institutions, and, when necessary, help students navigate the application process to other post- secondary institutions.
- Refer students to support areas as required, such as the Student Readiness and Retention teams, the Office of the Registrar, etc.
- When necessary, review academic performance with students to ensure that they are on track to succeed in their goals; work with instructors to ensure student success, and make recommendations to students for supports.
- Counsel students regarding course load, returning to the program after absences, transferring in from other PSIs, and program delivery transfers.
- Provide support and training regarding the program area(s) for the Retention team and serve as program liaison for the Retention team on the subject of student pathways and progress
- Maintain relationships with transfer credit officers to ensure the program and Faculty have up-to-date information for students on transfer agreements and degree pathways.

WHAT YOU BRING

- Completion of a Bachelor's (Undergraduate) Degree from an accredited postsecondary institution or a combination of relevant education and experience.
- Education and designation in a nursing or applicable health related field.
- Registration in good standing with CRNA, CLPNA, CRPNA or applicable health regulatory body.

SALARY: $30,817.50 - $40,016.50 annually for this 0.5 FTE (50%)
