Mountain Toys

Cochrane

Mountain Toys is looking for an experienced, hands-on Accounting Manager to join our team in Cochrane.

This is a broad, fast-paced accounting role responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting activities of a busy powersports and equipment dealership. This is not a narrow or highly specialized accounting position. The successful candidate will be directly involved in the daily financial work of the business and will be expected to independently manage multiple accounting processes, priorities and deadlines at the same time.

The Accounting Manager is responsible for full-cycle bookkeeping, accounts payable and receivable, payroll administration, GST filing and statutory remittances, bank and account reconciliations, invoicing, general ledger maintenance, commissions, and month-end and year-end support.

The role also includes dealership-specific accounting activities involving inventory, warranty, finance, F&I; and repair orders. Because Mountain Toys is a busy operational business, priorities can shift during the day and the Accounting Manager will regularly work with Sales, Service, Parts, the General Manager, external accountants, vendors, lenders and payroll providers.

This position is best suited to someone who enjoys variety, takes ownership of their work, is comfortable being the person responsible for keeping accounting activities moving, and can confidently manage competing priorities without requiring significant day-to-day direction.

What You'll Do

- Manage the day-to-day accounting activities of the dealership and ensure accounting deadlines and financial processes stay on track.
- Perform full-cycle bookkeeping, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, vendor invoices, customer payments, deposits, EFTs, expense coding, invoicing and general ledger entries.
- Complete bank, credit card and other account reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Retrieve, enter and reconcile daily invoices, repair orders and other dealership transactions.

- Prepare and file GST returns and complete required statutory remittances accurately and on time.
- Process payroll information and timeclock records, maintain payroll documentation and administer employee benefit changes.
- Calculate and prepare approved sales commission payments.
- Manage accounting transactions and reconciliations related to inventory, warranty, finance, F&I; and repair orders.
- Support month-end and year-end accounting activities and prepare financial information and documentation required by external accountants.
- Maintain accurate, complete and confidential financial records.
- Support internal controls, accounting procedures and audit requirements.
- Work directly with the General Manager and collaborate with multiple departments to resolve accounting issues and ensure required information is received and processed.

What We're Looking For

- Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on full-cycle bookkeeping or accounting experience.
- Diploma or certificate in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
- Demonstrated experience independently handling AP, AR, general ledger, bank reconciliations, payroll, GST filing/remittances and month-end activities.
- Experience working in an environment where you are responsible for multiple accounting functions at the same time, rather than one specialized area.
- Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial controls.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Excellent organization and time-management skills.

- Ability to prioritize changing demands while still meeting critical accounting and payroll deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of responsibilities and follow issues through to resolution.
- High level of integrity and confidentiality.

Experience in a dealership, automotive, powersports, agricultural equipment or other inventory-based business would be considered a strong asset.

What This Role Is Really Like

This position involves significant variety and responsibility and requires someone who is comfortable moving between payroll, payables, receivables, reconciliations, GST, commissions, dealership transactions and month-end responsibilities.

There will be competing priorities, questions from different departments and situations that require investigation and follow-up. While external accounting support is available, the Accounting Manager is expected to be self-sufficient in the day-to-day accounting work and comfortable taking responsibility for ensuring tasks are completed accurately and on time.

If you enjoy variety, problem-solving, taking ownership and being closely involved in the operations of a business, this role may be an excellent fit.
