We are currently seeking a Legal Assistant to join our team.
We are open to candidates at different stages of their Legal Assistant careers. Our preference is for someone with previous experience working in a law firm; however, we will also consider a strong recent graduate with the education, technical skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn necessary to succeed in a legal environment.
For an experienced Legal Assistant, we are looking for someone who can bring their existing knowledge and experience to the role. For the right recent graduate, we are prepared to provide training and support while you develop your practical legal office skills.
Compensation
$22.20 - $30.00+ per hour, with starting wage determined based on relevant experience, qualifications, and suitability for the position.
Key Requirements
- Previous experience as a Legal Assistant or in a law firm is preferred, but strong recent graduates will also be considered.
- Legal Assistant, Law Clerk, or Paralegal Diploma preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of legal terminology and knowledge of applicable rules and regulations.
- High proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and document management software.
- Solid technical skills in file organization and documentation preparation, including drafting, amending, editing, comparisons/track changes and database entry.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, lawyers, colleagues, and third parties.
- Strong attention to detail and diligent proofreading skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, both independently and collaboratively, while managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
- A willingness to learn and develop practical legal office skills is essential for candidates who are new to the profession.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal and administrative support to lawyers throughout the file lifecycle,
including liaising with clients, opposing counsel, courts, experts, and other third parties.
- Draft, revise, and proofread correspondence and legal documents.
- Manage files from opening to closing, including document organization, filings, and monitoring key deadlines.
- Process accounts, including entering and proofreading dockets, preparing retainer letters, sending invoices, and following up on outstanding accounts.
- Coordinate meetings and appointments, maintain calendars, and track deadlines.
- Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence, including email and paper mail.
- Maintain organized electronic and physical filing systems.
