At Career Contacts, we’re excited to be partnering with David Nairne & Associates (DNA), a multi-disciplinary firm of civil engineers, structural engineers, architects, planners, and project managers, as they search for an experienced and hands-on Accounting Manager to join their team.

With more than 50 years of experience and a team of 60+ professionals, DNA works on unique projects throughout BC and northern Canada. Their client base includes Federal, Provincial, Indigenous, and Métis governments, government agencies, and private sector developers. Many of their projects are located in remote and remarkable communities where their work has a meaningful and lasting impact.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of the day-to-day accounting operations of an established, collaborative, and project-based professional services firm.

As DNA’s Accounting Manager, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the company’s financial information is accurate, reliable, and available when needed. Working closely with project managers, leadership, and the finance team, you’ll oversee core accounting activities, support financial reporting, manage payroll, and provide guidance to a small accounting team.

This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys being hands-on, improving processes, developing team members, and ensuring financial operations run smoothly and efficiently.

Start Date: Immediately

Hours: Flexible 37.5-hour work week, with core hours of 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $90,000 to $115,000 per year

Location: North Vancouver, BC (primarily in-office, with up to 2 work-from-home days per week after onboarding, based on performance and business needs)

What You’ll Be Doing:

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you’ll oversee DNA’s day-to-day accounting operations while supervising and supporting two Accounting Assistants.





You’ll take ownership of core accounting activities, including general ledger management, month-end and year-end close, accounts payable and receivable, payroll administration, and financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

- Oversee daily accounting operations, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and on time
- Maintain the general ledger, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation
- Prepare monthly financial statements and lead month-end and year-end close processes
- Investigate financial variances, unusual transactions, and discrepancies, escalating concerns as appropriate
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash flow monitoring, and bank reconciliations
- Maintain work-in-progress (WIP) records and support accurate, timely project billing
- Drive collections and help resolve billing issues
- Administer semi-monthly payroll for approximately 50 employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Supervise, coach, and support two Accounting Assistants, reviewing their work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established procedures
- Ensure tax filings, remittances, and other regulatory requirements are completed accurately and on time
- Maintain effective internal controls and support audit and year-end processes
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting tools, and operational efficiency
- Maintain clear, practical, and up-to-date accounting procedures and documentation
- Respond to accounting inquiries and provide timely support to employees, project managers, vendors, and leadership
- Collaborate with DNA's partner-finance team and support broader business priorities as needed

What You Bring:

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a small to mid-sized or project-based organization
- Robust knowledge of financial reporting, general ledger management, accounting controls, and compliance
- Experience with payroll processing and related compliance requirements




- Advanced Microsoft Excel and accounting systems skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with excellent attention to detail
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate financial records
- A hands-on, solutions-oriented approach with the ability to improve and simplify processes

Great to Have:

- CPA designation or actively working towards obtaining one
- Experience working in a project-based or professional services environment
- Experience supervising, coaching, or mentoring accounting staff
- Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint or a similar project-based ERP system
- Familiarity with work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, project billing, and financial reporting in a project-based environment

Success in this role means DNA’s financial records are accurate, current, and reliable, with monthly and year-end reporting completed efficiently and on time.

You’ll ensure payroll, compliance, and internal controls run smoothly while providing the accounting team with the guidance and support needed to meet deadlines and maintain a high standard of work.

You’ll also help ensure leadership and project managers have access to timely, useful financial information while continuously identifying opportunities to simplify processes, strengthen reporting, and improve the overall effectiveness of the accounting function.
