Humble Beginnings Playschool is seeking an enthusiastic and nurturing Part-Time E.A. Preschool Teacher to join our unique community playschool! This is a temporary position providing maternity leave coverage, with an anticipated start in November 2026.

About Humble Beginnings Playschool:

Humble Beginnings Playschool is a non-profit, parent-led community playschool dedicated to providing a rich, hands-on learning experience for children aged 3-4 years. Our innovative program integrates early childhood education principles with an agricultural focus, utilizing our vibrant onsite farm as an extension of the classroom. We believe in fostering a deep connection to the natural world, promoting sustainable practices, and encouraging imaginative play and discovery. Our curriculum is play-based, recognizing that children learn best through exploration, discovery, and joyful engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

- Support our teacher by implementing an engaging,



age-appropriate curriculum that aligns with the Alberta Early Learning and Child Care Curriculum Framework and incorporates our agricultural focus, with a strong emphasis on play-based learning.
- Help our teacher with lesson plans that are hands-on activities that utilize the onsite farm, such as gardening, animal care (under supervision), and nature exploration.
- Create a safe, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment that fosters social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
- Observe and assess children's progress, providing individualized support and feedback to the teacher.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with teachers/parents/guardians, fostering a strong home-playschool connection.
- Collaborate with other playschool staff, parent volunteers, and the community to enhance the program.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting classroom and outdoor learning space.
- Adhere to all licensing regulations and playschool policies.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and staff meetings.

Qualifications:

- Early Childhood Education (ECE) certification 1 as recognized by Alberta Child Care Licensing.
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with preschool-aged children.
- Demonstrated passion for nature, agriculture, and outdoor education.




- Knowledge of child development theories and best practices in early childhood education, particularly in play-based learning.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification.
- Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Reliable transportation to our rural location South of Calmar.

Bonus Points if You Have:

- Experience in outdoor education or nature-based learning.
- ECE certification level 2 or 3
- Knowledge of sustainable farming practices.
- A creative and resourceful approach to teaching.
- Comfort using digital tools for classroom communication, documentation and organization, including Storypark, Google Drive and Canva, or a willingness to learn these platforms
- Ability to create and share easy digital classroom updates, resources and communications with families
- A genuine enthusiasm for messy play, muddy boots, curious questions and spending plenty of time outdoors!
