Bantel Construction is seeking an experienced Senior Carpenter to join our small residential construction team on Salt Spring Island, BC.

We are looking for an experienced, well-rounded carpenter with strong residential construction and renovation skills who can work independently with minimal supervision and consistently produce high-quality work.

This is a senior-level position and is not an entry-level or apprentice role. The successful candidate will have broad carpentry experience spanning structural construction through finishing and will be comfortable taking responsibility for assigned work, solving problems on site, and coordinating work with others as required.

Responsibilities

- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine work requirements.
- Prepare layouts in accordance with building codes using measuring tools.
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join wood, wood substitutes and other building materials.
- Perform structural carpentry, including foundations, floor systems, walls and roof systems.
- Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings, hardware and other finish components.
- Perform high-quality finish carpentry and detailed residential work.
- Maintain, repair and renovate residential buildings and structures.
- Estimate materials and costs associated with assigned work.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Schedule and coordinate assigned work on job sites.
- Identify and solve construction problems using sound judgement.
- Maintain accurate, high-quality workmanship.
- Coordinate effectively with the company owner, other workers, subcontractors and trades.
- Supervise up to 1–2 workers when required.
- Provide guidance to apprentices or less-experienced workers when required.
- Maintain a safe, organized and professional work site.




- Communicate professionally with clients when working in occupied homes and residential settings.
- Work at various residential construction and renovation sites on Salt Spring Island.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum 5 years of professional carpentry experience.
- Trades certificate or diploma in carpentry or equivalent professional carpentry experience.
- Significant experience in residential construction and renovations.
- Strong structural and finish-carpentry skills.
- Experience reading and working from construction drawings and plans.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools used in professional carpentry.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong construction problem-solving skills and sound judgement.
- Ability to produce accurate, precise and high-quality work.
- Ability to organize and coordinate assigned work on a job site.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a small construction team.
- Strong oral communication (English) and interpersonal skills.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Client-focused and qualified approach when working in residential settings.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Reliable own transportation to various job sites on Salt Spring Island.
- Ability to perform physically demanding construction work, including handling heavy loads, bending, crouching, kneeling, standing and walking.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors, at heights, and in typical construction-site conditions including noise and dust.

Additional Experience

Experience with high-end/custom residential construction, specialty finish carpentry, custom woodworking and sauna construction is an asset.

These are additional assets and are not mandatory requirements for the position.

Pay: $40.00 per hour
