Int/Sr Business Data Steward to Support Enterprise Data Governance & Platform Migration for Automotive Finance Client

Location: Markham, ON (3 days/week on-site)

Type: Permanent Full-Time

About the Role

Our client, a leading Canadian OEM automotive finance organization, is looking for a Business Data Steward to join their growing Data Governance team in Markham. This is a permanent role on a team established in 2023 that is still actively building out its governance function.

The team supports two major initiatives. The first is a data migration to a new Enterprise Data Platform built on Snowflake, targeting a January/February 2027 launch. The second is a longer-term business transformation program replacing a legacy mainframe system for contract receivables, running through approximately 2030.

What We're Looking For

Must-Haves

- 3-5 years of experience in data governance, data quality, or metadata management
- End-to-end data governance understanding, not just one area. Must have experience across cataloguing, quality management, data classification, and masking
- Strong communication skills and business aptitude. A significant portion of this role involves working with non-technical stakeholders, explaining issues in plain language, and influencing without authority
- Strong written skills. Writing explicit, detailed data definitions is a core daily activity
- Intermediate to advanced SQL
- Experience with a data governance tool (Informatica CDG preferred, other platforms considered)

What You'll Do

- Identify and document Critical Data Elements including definitions, business rules, data classifications, and quality rules
- Build and maintain the data catalogue using Informatica CDG, replacing the current manual Excel-based process
- Monitor data quality scores, investigate issues, identify root causes, and coordinate resolution with IT and business stakeholders
- Work directly with business leaders and data owners to explain issues, make recommendations, and drive resolution
- Train and educate business associates on data governance practices and data awareness
- Support data masking, PII classification,



and data protection initiatives
- Collaborate with IT, analytics, and business teams across both the EDP and Business Transformation programs
