Associate Pastor of Discipleship – Terwillegar Community Church

Terwillegar Community Church is a growing congregation located in SW Edmonton, Alberta, in the heart of Terwillegar Towne. Our congregation’s mission is to know Jesus, walk with Jesus and share Jesus. We seek to encourage one another to make room for God’s transformative work to take place within us in order that we may be changed into the likeness of Jesus. We anchor our ministry around community, teaching the Bible, and engagement in spiritual practices. We are a part of the Alberta Baptist Association and adhere to the North American Baptist statement of Faith.

In many ways our congregation functions as most evangelical churches do. We have various ministries offered to specific groups throughout the week and put a lot of effort into our Sunday morning gatherings. We believe that community is one of the primary vehicles through which people experience change, and so seek to have a robust Community Group ministry, Triad program, and share a meal around tables each Sunday. We are engaged in local and global missions, and aim to be strategically involved in our immediate community.

Unique to our congregation is that each Sunday we share a meal with one another following our worship gathering. Our worship space is transformed as chairs are stacked and tables are set up. We serve a hot brunch around which our congregation is able to visit with new and old friends, and deepen in relationship.

We are seeking someone to join our Ministry Team. One who can share the passion of our heart for ministry, get on board with our discipleship pathway, and who is aligned with us theologically. To meet the needs of our community, we are looking to hire a full-time male pastor of Discipleship who will oversee various areas of Sunday morning connections, Young Adults, Men’s Ministries and to participate in our Adult Discipleship Team. The Associate Pastor of Discipleship (POD) will serve in four primary areas. First, they will bring pastoral leadership and oversight to the Young Adult’s ministry of TCC. Second, they will bring pastoral leadership and oversight to the men’s ministry of TCC. Third,



they will give bring pastoral leadership and oversight to TCC’s Sunday Morning Connect Ministries. Fourth, they will work closely with the Lead pastor to strategize and implement TCC’s mission in adult ministries.

Primary Responsiblities (70%)

- Bring pastoral leadership and oversight to the Young Adult’s ministry of TCC. Implementing the vision and mission of TCC across TCC’s young adult ministry teams, events, and programs. (8hrs)
- Shepherd the Young Adults of TCC
- Work closely alongside the Family Ministries and Youth Pastors to strategize and implement generational transitions from ministry areas.

- Bring pastoral leadership and oversight to the Men’s ministry of TCC. Implementing the vision and mission of TCC across TCC’s men’s ministry teams, events, and programs. (8hrs)
- Bring pastoral leadership and oversight to TCC’s Sunday Morning Connect Ministries (7hrs)

- Responsibility to all Sunday morning elements apart from the worship service, i.e. TCC’s Connect Crew, hospitality, Connect table, and newcomer welcome.

- Strategize and implement TCC’s mission in adult ministries. (3hrs)

- Collaboration in and support to continued fine-tuning and implementing TCC’s discipleship pathway
- Pastoral care and direction to be given to some community group leaders and other leaders in the congregation

- Provide general pastoral/congregational care to the TCC Family (2hrs)

Other Responsibilities (30%)

- Assists and works closely alongside the Lead Pastor
- Works effectively and collaboratively as part of the ministry team (4hrs)
- Attends and participates in weekly staff meetings, church services and events, and relevant networking opportunities

- Preaching 2–3 times a year
- Attends relevant conferences and development programs
- Performs other duties as assigned (3hrs)
- Commitment to the ministry of the word and prayer (Acts 6:4) for TCC congregation and areas of ministry (5hrs)

Requirements and Qualifications

Personal Qualifications

- Has a vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ reflecting a joy-filled life
- Shows evidence of continued personal growth and maturity




- Lives within character qualifications of 1 Timothy 3:1–13
- Actively engaged in spiritual practices and has a willingness to pursue community with others at TCC
- Commitment to a Kingdom mindset and the work of His Church
- A strong calling and heart for ministry affirmed by others
- Teachable, desiring to grow in all areas (both personal and ministry)
- Ability to connect and relate with a variety of people/age groups
- Gifted in spiritual leadership, administration, and shepherding
- Agreement with TCC’s Statement of Faith, Vision, and Mission
- Committed to joining the membership of TCC

Skilled Qualifications

- Relevant Bachelor’s or Masters Degree (Including formal theological training)
- Minimum 5 years of church ministry experience in areas of adult discipleship (or equivalent)
- Demonstrated ability to develop, organize, maintain and execute a budget
- Demonstrated ability to set goals, prioritize, organize and implement plans
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural, multi-generational setting
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills, confident and able to preach

The POD will work full time* in a church ministry context, including established office hours. Weekly hours are generally flexible and can fluctuate from week to week, including evenings and weekends. The TCC staff team is comprised of individuals who adhere to and abide by the mission, vision, and values of the church and the Staff relational covenant and the ABA Pastoral code of ethics.

Supervision Received

Supervision is received primarily from the Lead Pastor, but collaborative insight is received from all ministry leaders.

- Financial authorizations above $500 from the Lead Pastor
- Regular one-on-one guidance from the Lead Pastor
- Performance feedback provided the Lead Pastor

Supervision Exercised

- Supervision is exercised over all women’s connection and women specific groups and opportunities, as well as any adult discipleship initiatives decided upon in collaboration with the Adult Discipleship team.
- Supervision is exercised in partnership with TCC staff over the communications of TCC to the congregation and community.

*Our preference is full time, however, we are open to conversations about part-time opportunities to a minimum of hours of 0.7. Note the above allotted hours assume a full-time (40hr) work week.
