Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and detail-oriented Dietary Cook to join our memory care team. In this role, you will do more than just prepare meals; you will create nourishing, safe, and comforting dining experiences for residents living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. You will prepare high-quality dishes that meet specific texture modifications and dietary restrictions while maintaining a warm, patient-centered atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities
Cook and present nutritious, appetizing meals and snacks according to the pre-approved menu and standard recipes.
Prepare specialized diets, including minced, pureed, low-sodium, and diabetic-friendly meals, ensuring strict adherence to resident care plans.
Maintain a spotless kitchen by following provincial food safety regulations, checking food temperatures, and properly labeling and rotating stock.
Interact with memory care residents with patience, kindness, and dignity, understanding that mealtime is a vital part of their daily routine.
Work closely with the Dietary Director and nursing staff to monitor resident food intake and report any changes in eating habits or swallowing difficulties.

Required Qualifications




Minimum of 1 to 2 years of cooking experience, ideally in a healthcare, long-term care, or retirement living setting.
Current Provincial Food Handler Certificate.
Valid CPR certification.
Ability to provide a clear criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector verification.
Robust understanding of texture-modified diets and therapeutic nutrition.
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, stand for long periods, and operate commercial kitchen equipment safely.
Exceptional patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills tailored for seniors with cognitive declines.

Preferred Qualifications
Certification or formal training in Culinary Arts or Institutional Food Preparation.
Prior training or experience working specifically with Alzheimer’s or dementia care residents.
