About Young Innovators Robotics Lab

Young Innovators Robotics Lab designs hands-on robotics and STEM programs that help young people learn by building, testing, and improving real-world projects. Our mission is to make engineering and technical thinking accessible, creative, and confidence-building for children from all backgrounds.

We produce the custom parts and kits behind our courses in-house, and our print farm is a core part of how we bring those projects to life.

Overview

We are seeking a 3D Print Farm Operator to run the day-to-day operation of our growing farm of FDM 3D printers. This is a hands-on, on-site role focused on keeping the farm producing reliably — scheduling and slicing prints, monitoring for failures, maintaining the machines, and sorting, packing, and prepping finished parts into kits.

As our production ramps up, this role is central to keeping output consistent and quality high. It is well suited to someone who enjoys working independently, takes pride in a well-run workspace, and is comfortable picking up new technical skills.

You don't need prior 3D printing experience to apply. What matters most is that you're dependable, detail-oriented, and a fast learner — we'll train the technical side. Above all, this role comes down to showing up when you say you will and following through on what you commit to.

This is a production and operations role — not a design role. You will be printing files that are provided to you, not creating them.

Key Responsibilities

- Organize and manage the day-to-day operation of the print farm
- Schedule, queue, and slice prints using slicing software such as Bambu Studio, Cura,



or PrusaSlicer
- Clear print plates each morning and print beds each afternoon to keep the farm running
- Monitor prints for failures and troubleshoot issues as they arise
- Perform routine printer maintenance to keep machines in good working order
- Keep filament and supplies stocked and the workspace organized
- Sort, pack, and prep finished printed parts into kits

Schedule & Time Commitment
- On-site in Surrey
- Two short on-site blocks during active periods: a morning visit to clear plates and start the day's prints, and an afternoon/evening visit to transparent beds and check output
- Hours flex with production volume: roughly 5–10 hours/week in quieter stretches, up to 20 hours/week during peak camp and production season, and occasionally very little during the off-season
- Reliable, consistent availability during active periods is essential to this role

QualificationsRequired
- Comfortable using a computer and picking up new software (slicing tools, scheduling)
- Own reliable transportation / a vehicle — the role requires getting to the Surrey farm on short notice, independent of transit
- Self-directed, organized, and highly detail-oriented, with a strong ability to follow a checklist




- Trustworthy and comfortable working with minimal day-to-day supervision in an industrial/workshop-style environment
- Able to commit to a adaptable, seasonally variable schedule and reliably show up as agreed — this is the single most important qualification for this role
- Willingness to learn 3D printing setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting — prior hands-on experience is a plus but not required

Assets
- Hands-on experience with 3D printing (maker, hobbyist, or skilled)
- Familiarity with slicing software such as Bambu Studio, Cura, or PrusaSlicer
- Experience running or maintaining multiple printers at once
- Interest in STEM education and hands-on learning
