About Happy Burger
At Happy Burger, we are passionate about serving top-quality smash burgers, hand-spun shakes, and comfort classics across Toronto. As our restaurant footprint and delivery channels grow, maintaining sharp financial health and smooth back-office operations is essential to our continued success.
We are looking for an organized, proactive, and detail-oriented Full time Bookkeeper to oversee our day-to-day accounting, payroll, and restaurant financial reporting.
Role Overview
As our Bookkeeper, you will be the backbone of Happy Burger’s financial operations. You will manage end-to-end accounts payable, reconcile daily sales across multiple storefronts and third-party delivery platforms, process Canadian payroll and remittances, and deliver timely financial reports to support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities1. Daily Sales & Revenue Reconciliation
- Reconcile daily point-of-sale (POS) batch reports against merchant processor settlements and bank deposits.
- Reconcile third-party delivery platform statements (Uber Eats, DoorDash, SkipTheDishes) against actual payouts, fees, and promotional discounts.
- Monitor cash handling procedures, petty cash accounts, and store-level cash drops.
2. Accounts Payable & Vendor Management
- Review, code, and enter vendor bills into cloud accounting software (food and beverage distributors, packaging suppliers, equipment maintenance, utilities).
- Ensure accurate allocation of expenses across restaurant locations and cost centres.
- Manage payment schedules, process EFT/wire payments, and maintain positive vendor relationships.
- Reconcile monthly vendor statements and promptly investigate billing discrepancies.
3. Payroll & Tip Management
- Run bi-weekly payroll for salaried and hourly restaurant staff, ensuring proper tracking of hours, overtime, and statutory holiday pay under the Ontario Employment Standards Act (ESA).
- Calculate and distribute tip pool allocations in compliance with provincial regulations.
- Prepare and submit payroll source deductions (CRA remittances for CPP, EI, and income tax withholdings) and issue Records of Employment (ROEs).
- Manage WSIB reporting and annual filings.
4. General Ledger, Bank Reconciliations & Compliance
- Perform weekly and month-end bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Prepare and submit Ontario Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) returns on a monthly/quarterly basis.
- Assist with month-end inventory adjustments, cost of goods sold (COGS) tracking, and food cost analysis.
- Prepare monthly internal financial packages, including Profit & Loss (P&L;) statements and balance sheets, highlighting budget vs. actual variances.
- Assemble year-end working papers and coordinate smoothly with external CPAs for annual tax filing.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of full-cycle bookkeeping experience; prior experience in the hospitality, quick-service restaurant (QSR), or multi-unit retail sector is strongly preferred.
- Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with cloud accounting platforms (QuickBooks Online or Xero), spreadsheet tools (advanced Excel / Google Sheets), and modern restaurant POS/payroll systems
- Canadian Regulatory Knowledge: Solid working knowledge of Ontario payroll legislation, CRA source deductions, HST filings, and Canadian ASPE bookkeeping standards.
- Analytical Mindset: High attention to detail with strong analytical skills to spot margin fluctuations, food cost discrepancies, and unaccounted fees.
- Communication & Independence: Ability to work autonomously, prioritize deadlines during month-end closes, and collaborate effectively with restaurant managers and leadership.
- Credentials: A diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, or an active Canadian Bookkeeper Certification (CPB/CAPB), is an asset.
Pay: $50,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person
