Summary The Chairperson for Surfrider South Vancouver Island is responsible for leading the chapter alongside the EC, making high-level strategy decisions, and supporting the chapter’s direction.

About This Opportunity

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Chairs the monthly EC meetings.
- Calls for votes via email or in EC meetings (5, 7 or 9 EC members for majority rules).
- Directs the development and implements the chapter's annual plan alongside EC.
- Reviews the annual plan and budget on a quarterly basis in EC meetings.
- Sits on and contributes to a program, campaign or operational committee.
- Connects with other Canada chapter leads via monthly calls (first Monday of every month), rotating with EC leads.
- Eagle eye oversight of the chapter: provides feedback, including fresh insights and new angles, on campaign and program projects as well as operations.
- Ensures the chapter has a fundraising plan and is completing grants, an annual fundraising event, securing sponsors, etc.
- Attends biweekly or monthly Chair meetings with the Regional Manager.
- A spokesperson for the chapter, fields media calls or delegates them out.
- Signatory on the Chapter bank account.
- Uses email address [email protected] for all surfrider communications & checks this chapter email account and replies to emails within 2-3 days.
- Completes SF University in 3 months https://cnet.surfrider.org/training/sfu/
- Attends Surfrider events when available.




- Joins/follows/likes; official Surfrider SVI Facebook page, public forum, Instagram feeds.

Qualifications

- Familiar with all of Surfrider Foundation South Vancouver Island programs & campaigns.
- Organized and can dedicate his/her time to accomplish monthly tasks.
- Strong communicator, leader, team member, and public speaker.
- Familiarity with MS Word, Excel, Google docs & calendar, and squarespace.
- Uses popular social media: Facebook, Instagram.
- Holds BC drivers license, has access to a vehicle and is willing to use their vehicle for chapter operations.
- Ideally, has board of director or organizational or committee experience (not required).
