Company Overview
MeDM Inc. is a Calgary-area marketing and creative agency operating since 2011. We work with businesses and organizations across Canada, providing branding, marketing, website development, content and creative services.
We are a small, established company with a flexible working environment. This position is being created to provide a combination of household/family management and professional support to MeDM’s owner.
The majority of the position will involve helping manage the day-to-day needs of the owner’s household and family in Cochrane. A smaller portion will involve personal and administrative assistance that helps the owner manage his professional responsibilities and devote more time to the business.
The successful candidate will be employed directly by MeDM and participate in applicable company payroll and employee benefit programs.
Job Overview
We are looking for a dependable, organized and proactive Household Manager / Family Assistant who enjoys helping people and keeping things organized.
This is a varied role. On any given day, you might be coordinating appointments, picking up groceries, helping organize a household project, driving a family member to an appointment, arranging a service call, managing calendars, or helping the owner take care of personal and administrative tasks.
The household includes two older adults. One is active and independent but would benefit from help managing household responsibilities. The other has reduced mobility and requires more assistance with day-to-day activities and appointments.
This is not a nursing or medical-care position. Medical and personal-care services are handled by appropriate family members and healthcare professionals.
The goal of the position is simple: help keep the household organized, make day-to-day life easier for the family,
and reduce the administrative demands on the owner so he can focus more of his time on MeDM.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities will vary from week to week and may include:
- Managing calendars, appointments and household schedules
- Booking and coordinating medical, personal and household appointments
- Driving family members to appointments, shopping or errands when required
- Grocery shopping, household purchasing and other errands
- Helping with meal planning and occasional light meal preparation
- Coordinating cleaners, home-care providers, tradespeople and other service providers
- Organizing household projects, storage and seasonal tasks
- Keeping track of household supplies, recurring needs and outstanding tasks
- Helping older family members with practical day-to-day activities
- Organizing household paperwork, receipts, documents and information
- Communicating with family members and service providers to make sure everyone knows what is happening
- Managing reminders and following up on outstanding items
- Assisting the owner with scheduling, organization, errands and personal administration
- Providing occasional administrative or organizational support related to the owner's skilled responsibilities at MeDM
- Identifying things that need attention and taking the initiative to resolve them
The position does not include providing nursing services, administering medications,
performing medical procedures or replacing professional home-care providers.
Qualifications
We are less concerned about a specific job title or career path than we are about finding the right person for the family and the role.
The ideal candidate will be:
- Extremely reliable, trustworthy and discreet
- Organized and comfortable managing multiple priorities
- Friendly, patient and comfortable working with older adults
- Proactive and able to recognize what needs to be done without always being asked
- A strong communicator with good judgment and common sense

- Able to coordinate appointments, contractors and service providers
- Comfortable driving and running errands around Cochrane and Calgary
- Able to maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding both family and business matters
