Position Summary

In anticipation of our current General Manager’s upcoming retirement, Sherwood Steel is seeking a energetic leader to honour our established heritage while driving the next chapter of growth. The General Manager ("GM") holds total operational and strategic accountability for the business. Combining a strong entrepreneurial mindset with proven executive leadership, the GM will oversee and at all times be willing to get in the detail of day-to-day operations, to establish short- and long-term business objectives, and to maximize organizational performance. Acting as the pivotal liaison between the Sherwood team and corporate executives, the GM will foster cross-functional alignment, optimize resource allocation, and ensure continuous operational excellence across all regions.

Reporting & Scope

- Reporting To: President of the Rebar Division.
- Direct Reports: Includes Estimating, Detailing, Operations, Installation, Safety, and Administration.
- P&L; Responsibility: Full responsibility for the top and bottom line.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

- Build and lead the team.
- Develop and execute strategic business plans and operational budgets to meet
- financial targets.
- Identify and pursue opportunities.





Commercial & Market Development

- Monitor market trends and direction to influence business strategy and pricing models.
- As a key member of the business development team you will work closely with estimating to secure profitable projects and maintain a healthy backlog.
- Cultivate and maintain positive, transparent relationships with customers, vendors, and industry stakeholders.
- Work with corporate purchasing to implement inventory strategies and maintain appropriate stock levels.

Operations & Safety

- Direct production and installation management to ensure service levels and cost goals are achieved.
- Champion a "safety-first" culture, ensuring strict compliance with all health, safety, and operational policies.
- Coordinate necessary detailing and estimating capabilities.

Administration & Team Development

- Assemble and mentor an effective management team.
- Manage performance through structured systems and support professional development.
- Identify and develop successors to mitigate company leadership vulnerabilities.
- Oversee administration functions including Credit, Contracts, Accounting, HR, and IT in coordination with corporate teams.

Qualifications

- Experience: 7 to 10+ years of management experience.
- Industry experience: Rebar fabrication or experience subcontracting to rebar fabricators.
- Market Knowledge: Familiarity with the construction industry in Edmonton and surrounding areas.
- Education: University degree or college diploma in Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- Technical Skills: Understanding of how a business operates to ensure efficient use of resources and protection of assets.
- Track Record: Demonstrated success in goal setting, strategic planning, leading teams, and delivering on commitments.
