Key Duties and Responsibilities

· Non-negotiable requirement:

o The prospective tutor MUST engage the child in sustained, purposeful, age-appropriate verbal interaction—including directions, narration, conversation, and storytelling—to support speech and language development.

o Encourage speech first. If verbal attempts are unsuccessful, prompt the child to use the AAC communication device, followed by signs and then gestures, rather than relying on aggressive behaviour.

· Provide individualized, one-on-one instruction tailored to the child’s developmental and learning needs.

· Teach self-regulation and emotional regulation skills, helping the child express frustration and communicate needs appropriately.

· Encourage appropriate behaviours using positive, consistent strategies and redirect aggressive or untoward behaviors.

· Use structured, engaging, sensory-aware, and play-based activities to support learning and participation.

· Apply goals and strategies recommended by the child’s SLP, occupational therapist, teachers, and other professionals.

· Monitor, track and document the child’s progress and communicate challenges and effective strategies to the parents.

· Maintain a safe, calm, structured, and supportive learning setting.

Qualifications and Skills





· Experience in working with children with autism or other high-support needs.

· Proven success using positive behaviour, self-regulation and teaching strategies to get child o to sustain attention o interested in varying subjects o to follow directions and learn different concepts

· Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with parents and the child’s therapy and education teams. knowledge of special education principles and individualized teaching strategies.

· supporting early elementary reading and writing development.

Potential tutor must be patient, calm, creative, dependable, punctual and able to build a trusting relationship with the child.

Pay: $20.00-$23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 12.0 per week
